Our chants typically aren't racial, more along the lines of "Who's your daddy?" and "Yankees suck", et.c

Not bloody likely. U.S. sports fans are pretty tame. And the team chants are even lamer.

on a different similar vein, The owner of a CFL team wants his fans to stop chanting "Rival team X sucks" and revert to their Fight Song of old, or something equaly positive :p

We are far more civilizied than that.

Except at pee-wee sports where angry dads can actually kill each other and do sometimes. But there aren't any racial comments, that would be crossing the line.

Anyway, Bills rock. Dolphins suck... like canada

    j/k.... or am i?

taunting about something that happened hundreds of years ago, yea, we would do that

going to a soccer/football game/match that one is a bit less likely, and would we even know what to say if we did?

It's pretty disgraceful, but I was down on 17th ave after the flames lost their cup, and the Tampa fans who were in Calgary for some reason were getting the living vrap beat out of them. Some were hospitilized, and some were just... wow...
Yea, alot of anti-american slurs on 17th that night. I still had a good time.

Yeah, cause it was the entire population of Spain and not just a handful of punks who were involved.

Oh, thank you for telling us about the Klan. I didn't even know such a thing existed. /sarcarsm

We're talking about racist behavior by sports fans, not racist, hate organizations in general. And no, you don't really ever see racist taunting at US sports events. Now, other abominable behavior you might see, such as at the recent basketball game. But US sport events are relatively tame compared to the hooliganism that goes on at European soccer games.

I will conceade that we might not know the full story since that article was more of a biased editorial than a legitimate news article.

To be fair, when I was an undergrad at the UofO, fans taunted J. Kidd about his parentage. Of course, he dropped a triple-double on the Ducks at Mac Court.

I do give mad props to English football fans for their cheers. To sing for 90+ minutes is cool, to berate the opponent with witty singing is even better.

    The Lady or the Tiger?

Well, something similar DOES happen at our games. It's true that the racist slurs are thankfully few and far between but fans do berate players for their "dubious parentage" as well as a multitude of other reasons. But you are right: compared to Europe, American fans are incredibly well-behaved...and that's including the latest dust-up in the NBA (Pacers-Pistons). I can't recall the last time fans beat each other to death in the USA (excluding the infamous hockey dad incident).
