those are pretty much the skills. I could be wrong but lightning/chain lightning are interchangeable. Choose one and go with it!

Static field as a 1-20 pt wonder works as a third element for minimal points, too. I can't say for certain that L/CL will do much dmg w/o at least 40-60 points

I took a tri-element sorc into the high level 90's with a full Tal-Rasha's set. I forget exactly when I stopped playing her. I went Frozen Orb, Hydra, and Charged Bolt.

Frankly, I'm not doing it again. It was a fun change of pace from some of my other characters, but dual-tree is capable of hitting most monsters so very much harder.

However, if I did try it again, I might go with Fire Wall over Hydra. It would require more micromanagement, but the damage on Fire Wall is pretty amazing.

But I'd be hesitant to give up Charged Bolt.

Many and Varied. Check out these links I compiled while making my Tri Elemental (mine was FW/CB/FO). Pay particular attention to the threads by EnerSense. (s)he did several variations on the theme.

Yes, I read all of those threads.

My only advice is to definitely use Tals full set and to save points in the masteries. You pick two skills that only require 20 points to work (frozen orb, fire wall, or nova) and then you pick one skill that takes more than 20 and that's where you dump your points (lightning, chain lightning, charged bolt, fireball, hydra, blizzard, whatever).

ps. 20 points in static does not make a 3rd element.

Yeah, Static Field is a one-point wonder, but since it stops working once monsters lose a certain portion of their health in Nightmare or Hell, it can't be a third elemental damage source.

Skimping out on elemental masteries in order to partially synergize Lightning could actually be pretty good.

So then what Masteries do I max and which one(s) don't 1?

Huh? The point of going tri-element is to have all three elements. You don't have the points to spare maxing masteries. Seems pretty self-explanatory. Also, CDM already linked to over a dozen different builds.

In my case, with Frozen Orb/Charged Bolt/Hydra, I invest 74 points into my main spells, prerequisites, and to get a point into Shiver Armor. That does leave enough to max one mastery, but why would I if I'm trying to have high damage output for all three elements? And Tal-Rasha's set pushes the masteries through the roof anyway. It's not as though anything special happens when exactly 20 hard points are invested into a single mastery. So I put points into all of them. Well, I mainly focused on Fire and Lightning Mastery, letting +skills take Cold Mastery to a decent level.

The best thing to do is use a skill calculator when you're unsure about a tri-element build. I guess that's true for any build. As it was pointed out, you don't have the luxury of unlimited skill points so you must use them wisely. I'm basing this advice on the seven tri-element sorcs (pure casters) that I've made over the years. Sometimes putting more points into a synergy is better than placing them into a mastery. The only exception is if you're going to use Nova for your sorc. Nova has no synergy so the only way to increase it's power is to put points into Lightning Mastery. I'd recommend to max it in this case. Anyway, you can learn more about this build by looking up the threads that crawlingdeadman has provided you. Good luck!

You can check out my build as well. I made a Hybrid Melee/Caster Sorceress which uses the following skills: 'Enchant', 'Fire Wall' and 'Frozen Orb'. Combined with a Dual 'Dream' and obv. 'Lightning Mastery' and 'Fire Mastery' it's a fearsome character. You can also add the Skills 'Meteor' and 'Hydra' if you like, but they're not as strong as they could be. Check the topic: "Tri-Elemental Sorceress -Unchain the wild women!"
