    Treasure Imp Inspiration?

I just stumbled upon this... The treasure imp might have been inspired by Golden Axe, an old sidescrolling 2.5D beat-em-up arcade game. Sadly I never played this in my childhood, but I did play a few other games very similar. They were tons of fun!

Check him out. He tries running away, but it seems you can keep beating potions out of him! Fast forward to 3:30

It is very hard to be original nowadays. In my mind they have all copied D&D which copied Tolkien which copied ancient myths so it is not so much where they got the original idea but how they implement those ideas in unique and interesting ways.

This is an intentional nod. It's no secret :p.

D3 takes a lot from oldschool arcade games in terms of monster interaction/behaviour. It's part of the reason I'm so intrigued by this game's gameplay and believe that it's going to be more compelling than anything else in the genre.

Ah, thanks! I knew 'Imp' was wrong, but couldn't remember the name.

The fact it's directly inspired from Golden Axe reminds me of the saying "Good art borrows; great art steals". I'm all for it :)

In a nod to Pac-Man, you have to click the D2 Chat Gem 3,333,360 times which is logged to your account enabling you to enter the little guy's portal in D3 taking you to Greed's Realm where you have 30 seconds to get as much loot as you can.

    A ludicrous notion, truly.

These enemies fall under the metal slime trope. The oldest implementation I can find in an action game seem to be:

The Gauntlet Thief appears similar, with the bag at least.

Dungeon Siege II had the "???" loot thief, too. A bag carrying goblin-thing that would appear out of nowhere and swipe the loot that just dropped for you. You could also "beat the candy" out of him. :D
