I am the Diablo 2 fanboy

I've only played the open beta weekend, but I don't really see much of those stereotypes coming to light. I bet there would be stereotypes from D2 like:
The AFKer (in town all the time and does nothing)
    -the beggar (begs for gear)
-the guy who gets killed a lot
-the loot whore (comes along and doesn't help but take loot)
-the leecher (guy who just stands by to leech experience but doesn't kill)
-the lonewolf (joins game but doesn't join party and ventures off by himself doing quests that the group isn't doing)
-the douchebag (comes in and finishes key quests without partying or without you)
-the showoff (guy who joins and acts tough by questing and letting the mob surround him making his char take all the beating and rarely fight back, or worse yet fights naked/with crappy gear)

I gotta agree with you on the leecher and lootwhore. The rest kinda can't be part of D3 because the game is built in a whole different way :)

Yeah true, I already have ideas for a lot more tho :) So if you wanna see it, make sure to subscribe to the channel - I think they're gonna be hilarious ^^

And are you gonna do a hardcore release 48 hour straight play or something like that then? :)

the douchbag one wont work in d3. luckily they fixed that for us.

the lootwhore and leech is the same thing in d3.

really the one thing i am most concerned about is someone making a game. taking the waypoint and luring a ton of monsters to it then porting back to town. then that person will open his game to the public and when they join and take portal they get owned. could be a real issue come hc.

I'm really looking forward to this new type of player in D3: The guy that doesn't realize mindless boss runs aren't the optimal strategy anymore.

    Re: Stereotypes in Diablo 3?

Our current understanding of Bosses = slightly lower drop chance, but actually a higher drop chance if you farm elites/champions first. Furthermore, they are a higher level than the monsters around them, have a well-defined set of abilities, have a set tile layout, and always spawn.

So based on our current understanding, even though they normally have a smaller chance of dropping good items, they could drop better items than the surrounding monsters (making the items that do drop are more likely to be sellable), and are more predictable so they're easier to farm.

Perhaps I'm that stereotypic guy who doesn't realize boss runs aren't the optimal strategy?

    Re: Stereotypes in Diablo 3?

Boss runs can be considered optimal before level 60 (for farming gear). At 60 a consideration must be made for Nephilim Valour Buff; elites must be killed first for optimal drop rates, etc etc.

Is this correct, or do bosses have lesser drop rates for optimal gear then elites, etc ?

    Re: Stereotypes in Diablo 3?

Elite monsters and bosses have the same chance of dropping rares, and both add a valor buff until you leave the game. So it will indeed be better to just farm every elite you can, instead of boss runs and keep making new games.

And risk getting nasty mod combos? Of course we don't know for sure but it seems to me bosses will still be more predictable and easier to specialize to for farming... So I'll believe it when I see it.

    Re: Stereotypes in Diablo 3?

Imo it's worth dying a few times, seeing as you won't lose the valor buff when you die(I think?) - and then have a increasing buff to your MF. I mean, I'd at least rather have 1000% mf and dying a few times while increasing it, than having 650% mf and keep reconnecting to games and just kill bosses. But that's just my 2 cents :)

    Glad you liked it, man!

    Don't forget the WoW player:
    - asking for Gearscore
    - asking which talent tree to specc in
    - nagging about no BoE items
    - asking how to set inferno to non heroic mode
    - Got tank, LF healer and 3DPS!
