So much for playing D3 while deployed.

One of my best memories was meeting up on the mess deck on the ship while deployed underway and playing D2 LAN on our computers. Also the many hours I spent leveling my single player HC necro in my rack on down time. I guess Blizzard totally forgot about military personnel that don't have personal internet access. Often the only access to the internet while over seas is a government computer that can only be used for e-mail and casual surfing, but no games, and no wifi for laptops. Thanks Blizzard we all feel the love, but guess its our fault huh?

Had a few witty comments but.. I'll spare you. I didn't have issues with internet requirement, obviously only because it's no issue for me. But in your shoes I would be livid with Blizzard..

But.. have you considered a mutiny and takeover of the government internet on release day? Sorry, couldn't help throwing one in there. Thank you for your service none the less.

Hackers on piratebay care about you, I'd bet they have a working version up within a week.

You should spend more time playing COD or maybe minesweeper.

I'm probably gonna be on one of my 6 month cruise ship musician gigs and this news has made me sad.

Sort of like WoW is playable offline? e.g. a joke?

Re: So much for playing D3 while deployed.

I'm in the Coast Guard, its getting rough for people to get in these days though even the Army is filling their recruiting qutoa. Think the only thing they are taking prior enlisted for is 11X contracts or special forces. Good luck man!

On topic: I just wish Bliz would think things a bit deeper. Yes the % of military personnel that does not have internet connection is pretty small, but I still can't see the harm of keeping a single player option. Not once during the many many years of playing D1 or D2 did I freak out when I realized that I couldn't play my single player chr on b.net. Its pretty standard setup. Wifi can be found in a lot of places, but like other people have brought up, these places like the airport like to price gouge for service and maybe people want to play and not pay $15 for an hour? There are also lots of rural homes and areas where best they can get is 56k dial up, internet yes, practical? NO!

Yea, it is understandable all the branches are filling their quotas.

Re: So much for playing D3 while deployed.

I have more sympathy for kids who don't have internet because their parents can't afford it, or because they live in rural areas with no option to move out until they are older, than I do for people who made a career choice, hopefully, knowing that they would have limited access to internet.

I won't be able to play Diablo 3 at work either, but I don't expect people to feel sorry for me because of it.

They will completely reverse engineer the client/server protocol and have a working Battle.net server emulator made in a week?

    Good luck to them.

Sorry mate but it was your decision to join the armed forces where you knew you would have limited access to internet. That aside, if blizzard doesn't want to support offline then screw them to be frank, they aren't worth your time. There are plenty of single player games out there for you to play. And guess what, after you serve you'll be able to soak it in back home.

I didn't realize folks in the military had no entitlement to some personal time. Oh wait, you're just an idiot.

I didn't realize folks in military didn't realize their personal time may be limited by the conditions they work in.

I get a lunch hour at work but I still won't be able to play Diablo 3 during it, wether it has an offline mode or not. Perhaps I should start a petition about that?

You should compare your evening break (the one from 17:00 till 09:00) with that of the people who are deployed, not your lunch break :p

Re: So much for playing D3 while deployed.

I bet people would scream at Blizzard for being unfair, but I would be totally fine with them making an offline version for military personnel.

They wouldn't, because the same problems Blizzard is concerned with would be theoretically possible regardless of who had access to such a feature, but I have a soft spot for people who defend my freedom, especially those who did it of their own free will.

Re: So much for playing D3 while deployed.

That was a terrible comparison. Diablo 3 is not a MMORPG.

And yeah, just hope that those pesky pirates at piratebay will have a working version quickly.
