Slaying fallen on a budget - Student laptop

    2. EDIT: Thanks alot Tilitoon, aerial and beltt! I ended up with the K53SV i7.

    EDIT:
    Holy motherload of information.
Okay, I think I have it down to these options.
Cheapest on the top. From 862$-1100$. If the bottom laptops really are worth it compared to the rest that is no problem.

    ACER Aspire AS5750G-2456G64
    Intel Core i5 2450M 2.50GHz
    Nvidia GeForce 610M 1GB
    ---
    ASUS K53SV-SX393V
    Intel Core i5-2410M 2.3 GHz
    GeForce GT540M 1GB
    ---
    ASUS K53SV-SX507V
    Intel Core i7 2670QM 2.2GHz
    GeForce GT540M 2GB
    ---
    ASUS K53SM-SX004V
    Intel Core i7 2670QM 2.2GHz
    GeForce GT 630M 2GB
    ---
    ACER ASPIRE 5750G
    Intel Core i7 2670QM 2,2 GHz
    GeForce GT 630M 1GB

Researched some more and figured that 1000$ seems unlikely.
What do you guys think about Asus U46S.

    Intel Core i5-2410M CPU - 2.30 GHz – 3 MB L3 cache

    Intel HM65 (Cougar Point)

    1 x 4092 MB DDR3 SDRAM – PC3-10600 – Kingston ASU1333S9-4G-ECEWG

Intel HD Graphics 3000 (Sandy Bridge GT2)
    nVidia GeForce GT540M – 1 GB
    500 GB - 7200 RPM - Seagate ST9500423AS

Also took a look at Asus X53SV and Asus A53SV
    14' LED – 1366 x 768 pixels (WXGA)

Those all seem to be good laptops spec-wise. You shouldn't have any problems running DIII on any of them. Based on your selection it seems you have quite a good understanding of the type of computer that would be good for your needs. I would need to check out reviews for these particular models to tell you if there are specific features that would be worth mentioning, otherwise I'm not sure what else to tell you because like I said they will all run DIII at least on medium. You would have to figure out how much you are willing to spend and see the one that offers the performance you want to the right price. Since I have no idea that the prices are in Denmark it'll be hard to say which one had the best performance / price ratio. Obviously the Asus A53SV with the i7 will perform better with the Adobe product line.

Good to hear! I couldn't find most of the graphic cards on the "supported list" so was a bit unsure. I'm going to try and find a shop where I can see them and feel them. Thanks for the reply!

A supermarket just put a Acer Aspire AS5750G at a very reasonable price. I did find another AS5750G with a i7 processor. What I'm asking is, how much of a difference is there between this:
    Intel Core i7 2670QM 2,2 GHz
    NVIDIA GeForce GT 630M
    And the cheaper one;
    i5 2450M
    Nvidia GeForce 610M 1GB?

    Prices are 880$ and 1100$

EDIT: Seems that I cant find the Asus X53SV and A53S
in shops. The U46S looks really tempting, only thing is the 14' screen.

I live in Denmark too.... Prices suck here...... This just a bit above the 1200 USD or 7000 DKR you mention but it will run D3 on highest settings i think.

Only prob it that its 17.3 inch which might be a bit heavy to carry around...

This is 930 USD or 5300 DKR and should also run D3 on medium-highish. Only problem is the Optimus technology that has been causing problems for some people during the Beta..

Check out some of the other laptops on Medions website. They have lots of different models and prices are on the low end compared to Asus, MSI etc.

Re: Slaying fallen on a budget - Student laptop

You don't want i7 for d3, diablo can't even use 4 cores let alone hyper threading.
I'd focus on laptop with as good gpu as possible, as it is weakest part of them, while cpus being quite decent.
SSD drive would be really nice touch, even a small one ~40gb, if you use proper release of windows, that doesn't eat up lots of resources.

I'm sorry, not quite sure I'm following you. Are you saying I should go with the best of the 2 i5? The first one that is?

He's saying that the i7 won't give you more fps in DIII than an i5. The only benefits you will get with the i7 will be when using the Adobe product line.

    Ah alright. Of course.
So if, Adobe aside, number 2 laptop would be the best for me. (Asuming GT 540M is better than 610M which I think I saw in another thread)

Re: Slaying fallen on a budget - Student laptop

Actually those models are different than the desktop versions. For example, the i5-2410M has 2 cores and is hyper-threaded (so you'll see 4 logical processors), while the i7 2670QM has 4 cores and is also hyper-threaded (so you'll see 8 logical processors).

But yea, I guess the second one would be the best pick from those 5. Too bad there isn't a config with the CPU from the first model (i5 2450M 2.5Ghz instead of 2.3Ghz) and the GT 540M).

Edit: Is the third laptop much more expensive than the second ? I mean, both would be good choices, but the i7 is still better than the i5 so it's only a matter of how much you are willing to pay for that extra performance. I must also mention that the max turbo frequency on the i7 is 3.1Ghz (same as the i5) so even if the i7 has a base clock of 2.2Ghz instead of 2.5Ghz, they will ramp up to 3.1Ghz when on full load. The i7 also has 6MB of cache instead of 3MB. I hope I'm not making this more confusing than it already is, I just wanted to let you know the difference between those CPU. Both should run the game fine on medium, but the third one will give you a slight performance increase in DIII, and a very noticeable performance increase when working with Photoshop / Premiere / etc...
