I have never grinded in Diablo 2 and dont plan to in Diablo 3.

I HATE grinding.. Thats why i played WoW for a month and wondered why people play that boring game..

"Grinding is a term used in video gaming to describe the process of engaging in repetitive and boring tasks not pertaining to the story line of the game.[SUP][/SUP]" - Wikipedia Grinding (Video Games)

I played Diablo 2 for over 10 years and have NEVER gotten bored while playing it.. I have done hundreds of Baal runs IN A DAY and loved every single one.. Yes it was repetitive, but NEVER got bored, and thats all I hope for in Diablo 3. I want to do diablo runs in inferno all day every day for years to come, and thats all I can really ask of blizzard to give us. After doing like 50 SK runs in the open beta I wanted to another run more then the last, and thats all thats goona be on my mind until well..

    CANT WAIT FOR 5/15

I have never grinded in Diablo 2
I have done hundreds of ball runs in a day

    IDK?

On another note getting to lvl 99 in D2 takes way longer than getting to 85 in Wow

People play wow for many reasons.
    1) they love the world and the lore it is centered around
    2) the social aspect of the game
    3) for some its to be good at PVP, others it to be end game raiders, and others it for role play.

Both games has grinding, every RPG I think I ever played required some grinding. And running Baal Runs over and over is grinding, so you did grind in D2.

There are 2 things that are required if you want to be "good" in RPG games.

    1) Don't be stupid.
    2) You need to be able to do 100+ Baal runs a day and not get bored. Mere mortals call it grinding.

    Emphasis heavily on the "+".

Wow is boring if you make it boring...unless your at max level and gear on a small server and old raids still requires someone to group with :/. Wow is all about the social aspect mainly. It's a very different focus than Diablo so not = comparison.

What you did was definitely grinding. You just happened to enjoy it.
I never did it in D2, and I won't be doing in D3.
Unfortunately going by what the dev team has said, my only hope of entering Inferno then would be to buy items at the RMAH. And I'm definitely not going to do that.
    I guess I'll never complete Inferno. :/

you don't have to buy... you can "trade" you know, sell your unwanted legendary to RMAH -> get balance -> use RMAH balance to buy the gear you need! bam! you are trading not buying with your money :p

Or you can just the gold AH normally.... if for some improbable reason gold AH doesn't have the gear you want... then just sell your gold for RMAH balance and buy it from there... see no actual money from you required.

Since I won't be grinding areas it is unlikely that I will ever find items worthy of trading!
But that's fine, I'd rather level up different characters from scratch than redo the same area over and over with the same one.

    Grinding can be fun.

I'm a programmer. When I return home after 10+ hours session of hardcore C++ problem solving and design, I seriously don't want to engage my brain to much. Therefore I can just sit down and mindlessly do Baal runs and relax.

Similar situation, though I have to admit that at some point killing the same bosses over and over bores me too (apparently thats when my programmer senses take better of me...). Though, tbh I never got bored of playing the necromanacer in Diablo 2.

However, I do hope that D3 will make coop more diverse and fun, so that it won't be all about silly grinding

In D1 i loved to run around killing to see what dropped, in D2 i was in the same game for hours to look after items, runes etc. In D3 i for sure not gonna stop grinding, thats the fun part for me in this games, guess i'm diffrent from OP :)

Not everyone does,in fact majority stop around 85.I agree with the OP I do not see the Diablo games as grindy.Repetitive does not mean something is grinding, lots of games are repetitive.Grinding infers its tedious and slow but the goal makes it worth it.In Diablo games you have the reward bit but it's also fun getting there also its not exactly slow.Going for level 99 I agree 100% is grinding but I do not think getting to level 60 will be anywhere near as slow in Diablo 3.

lol never grinded but did hundreds of baal runs in a day. thats like saying you won the tour de france but never rode a bike.

to me the worst part of d2 was the runs, any other form of end game would have been better, but since all we had was runs i just went with making new characters.

Re: I have never grinded in Diablo 2 and dont plan to in Diablo 3.

I guess the grind is in the hand of the clicker. :scratchchin: I was bored to tears in D2 after 20 Baal runs; the most levels I ever got was 93 and after that I swore to myself 'never again!'. After that I got to 92 on a few chars, but mostly stopped at 85-90. The problem was that on the higher levels Baal was the only place worth running for xp... I'd have much preferred Chaos runs since you actually move around and more players get to add to the run efficiency by killing stray mobs (in Baal it's all the same whether there's one Hammu with 19k hammers or Hammu + Light sorc and whatever).

Re: I have never grinded in Diablo 2 and dont plan to in Diablo 3.

I differentiate between grinding and farming.

Grinding is something I have to do, but don't want to, in order to continue with the game.
Farming is something I might have to do, but also want to because they made it fun.
