Bannage for using widescreen patch and such (Diablo II)

Hello. Can Blizzard ban me for using programs for making the game run in 1080p resolution and such? :scratchchin: Programs like this, that are not directly interacting with ingame economy and stuff.

Is there a reason why the in-game options are not enough for you, since they provide all that?

Because the in game resolution is pretty crappy?

You're asking about Diablo 2, correct?

Hwever, this forum says Diablo 3 in the title.

Blizzard won't start distinguishing between malevolent and benevolent hacks, that would open a Pandora's box. Using any third party software is a violation of the contract which you agreed to when installing the game and/or making a bnet account. Being caught at it leads to a ban from bnet, as it's stated there. Pacta sunt servanda.

Unfortunately they do ban for that stuff..

But I suppose you would go undetected.

And I think it is cheating in the sense that it works by using the same textures but tiling them, so you actually see 4-5 times further than anyone else. Kinda imba in PvP.

That's just stupid - ther'es dozens of 3rd party plugins running on my computer to improve performance of my hardware. Ranging from drivers to cleanup background processes that periodically clean the vram. Those also influence what *I* wish to see it is MY GAME< MY PC, AN MY TIME. WHO DOES BLIZZARD THINK HE IS DECIDING WHAT I CAN DO?

They made the game, they maintain the servers, you agreed to their tos. They hold all the cards, that's just life.

You can do whatever you want in SP though. Of course the SP community here does not accept use of that mod, but it's still your choice.

If you see further then you can also teleport further. An unfair advantage I'd say.

Maybe because you are doing it while playing on THEIR bnet servers.

As said, this is a D2 topic, so this thread might be moved to a D2 forum at any time.

That is true, and essentially you are using map hack.

Then my question is how does the game look on modern 1080p monitor? Last time I played D2 was on CRT 4:3 monitor and it looked mighty fine in its native 800x600. If it looks bearable in 800x600 on 22" 1080 display, then I think I can easily refrain from using any patches. That's essentially what I want - for it to look good on a modern monitor.

I used a 720p 25" monitor before D3 came out. it's a bit grainy in full screen but not bad. I usually just ran it in windowed mode which made it look pretty good.

Interesting. Can you resize the window size in windowed mode?

I think you have to use it in the native resolution. So it can be okay if you are running a lower desktop resolution, but may be kinda small if you have a large resolution to start with.

I had no problem with d2's res on my HD monitor while I was playing that. I forget what settings it was, it must have just been the highest available from their menu since i didn't have any mods other than the one that let me use ladder rune words offline. I found it to be pretty grainy after trying to play it post d3 though, which irritated me.

Your fine as long as you don't connect to battlenet. Single player offline and your fine.

It looks like crap on anything over 15" imho. I played it on my 24" 1080i. Your eyes get used to it after a while.
