    Adventures of a Diablo Noob

Hey everyone, I've recently begun playing Diablo II for the first true time (played once when it came out but i was 8 so it doesn't really count) and I'm pretty excited about Diablo III. I've noticed that over 90% of the people posting on internet articles about D3 are people who are Diablo veterans expressing excitement, I thought I would provide a different perspective as a complete noob.

So, i've started a series on my blog about my experiences, thoughts and opinions going through the game. The first post is through maybe the first 5 or 6 horus ( i was level 12 when i made it) and i will have another post up later this week. I'm playing the entire game through, hopefully finishing in 2 or 3 weeks, giving me ample time before D3. Please tell me what you think!

No hate, though, please. If i'm doing something wrong or being excessively noobish please let me know. Thanks for your time :)

Boring. Why would people read about your noob adventures instead of actually playing the game?

Why are you on a D2 forum posting when you could be playing the game?

Edit: How can you say it's boring? Obviously you didn't even click on the link, it has a youtube video behind it

Had a quick looksie at the video, here's my suggestion: RUN! Can't remember what the default key is, but you can click on the little man next to your stamina bar. Your stamina does run out really fast at early levels, you'd better drink some stamina potions occasionally

Re: Adventures of a Diablo Noob

I watched your video and listened to your comments. Welcome to the game and I hope you stick with it.

As you are at the beginning of the game, your main intention should be to gain levels. You really dont need to pick up all you find, most of it will be useless to you. In a while you will gain a better understanding of what to keep and what to sell/throw away. Sell enough items to keep you stocked up on tp scrolls and some stamina potions. Once you travel to act 2 you will find a cube through one of the quests that allows you to carry a few more items in your inventory. However for the time being, on Act 1 there are numerous potions dropped and laying about so simply carry enough to fill your belt. If you were playing a sorc you may require more potions, but as a paladin you have more much more defence.

I always use the full map, but then it does not interfee with my view or gameplay. Basically I like to know where I am on the map. Also as IncubatorJones said "use stamina potions". Better to run in open places and walk in tombs etc.

Once you get further into the game use tp scrolls if you cant find the waypoint. Its safer than walking all the way back through the game to retrieve your body.

    Best of luck

Thanks! I appreciate your response and thanks for the advice.

Thanks to everyone else who took a look as well.

I just finished Act I and was at level 16, which i hope were enough levels. i was definitely having trouble with certain enemies, like large groups of the undead who would throw fireballs or the taken who would spit ice, but with a mercenary i was able to get through it all. Andariel was difficult as well but i think more so than i made her out to be; i think i over reacted and could have killed her quicker/easier.

    Thanks once again!

you should make a let's play like tgn or keep us updated. andariel doesn't like fire.
in act 2, watch out for the tomb vipers, they hurt especially the lightning enchanted one. be very careful of duriel, he likess to do a cheap first hit, so bring lots of potions and make a tp before entering duriel's lair. he also has slow aura. good luck.

Re: Adventures of a Diablo Noob

I'm working on the second post for the blog and the accompanying video and it should hopefully be up within the next 48 hours. I was planning on doing one blog post for each act so i could show how my opinions and experiences changed as i progressed but i think i might do it a bit more often since i like the idea of a let's play. it won't be traditional but i'll definitely do it let's play style.

thanks for the advice concerning act II, i'll keep an eye out for those scorpions!

Well they're snakes and by the time you see them, they strike.

I enjoyed your take on the game and advise you to take it slow and enjoy it/savor it. It is really about the journey you take with your character --not rapidly progressing through level and such (not to wax too poetic).

And a last bit, undress (giggle) your current mercenary and get a new one in Act 2. My two cents would be a Combat Merc due to his Prayer Aura.

The hardest thing you will face next will be Duriel, so don't rush into it!

    1. You don't have to mouse over each item on the ground. Hit the ALT key, and their descriptions will all appear.
    2. If playing Single Player, try setting the players setting to eight. (By typing "/players8", without the quotation marks. Monsters will be tougher, but you'll level faster and gain more loot. If not playing Single Player, play Single Player.
    3. Playing at /players8, I generally kill Andariel around level 19. You're not far off.
    4. Buy a Tome of Town Portal and one of Identify. Each will hold up to twenty scrolls, and take up far less inventory space.

I've finished making the video and writing the post to part 2 guys, if anyone is still interested! its mostly stuff about the first half of Act II. At the time of writing and making the video i was level 18 but am now a bit stronger.

    http://www.ign.com/blogs/cac1291/2012/04/07/adventures-of-a-diablo-noob-part-2

now that i've been really getting into it i've been reading articles and watching some vids about diablo 3 and the changes they've made, and i feel pretty excited about most of them, especially the skill system change. how do you guys feel about all the changes? or a different topic for a different thread perhaps?

let me know what you think :)

Just wanted to say, I really like what you have written.

As for tips, if you are not using an attack that requires mana, dont keep mana potions in belt. and be sure to stack potions in the belt, when you use a potion it moves down. Also, find a 3 slot belt at least until you have enough strength to wear a 4 slot belt. This will help clean up your inventory as you can hold more potions.

    And try zeal :)

Re: Adventures of a Diablo Noob

ParadoxE, why are you attacking with 1 strike? have you not placed any points into "zeal??" As a paladin you need zeal so you have improved attack rating and you can strike 5 times with one mouse click at lvl 12. What skills have you assigned only it appears as though your skills are all over the place. Its more difficult for you because you have not combined your melee skills. You would do better using ZEAL as your attack, coupled with a few points in MIGHT and SACRIFICE at low levels.

At level 18 you would change to CONCENTRATE instead of MIGHT

You definately do not need holy bolt or charge. Ideal skillsfor melee are ZEAL and MIGHT at lower levels, followed by ZEAL + CONCENTRATE and HOLY SHIELD at a higher level plus possibly SALVATION if your resists are very low.

With these you will find life lot easier.

Also the heavier the armour you wear, the faster yoru stamina will be depleted. Look for a light armour with some resists or life. Do not worry so much about defence at this stage.
