HELP - atma/gomule, rwm/rrm, utilities and variants

This thread provides support for all of the allowed game alterations on the SP(T)F. Remember these are either unable to be used on bnet or will get you banned from there and our Realm trade forums.

This thread will not support any other mods/mod-making please goto The Phrozen Keep for that.

We do not condone or assist with editors of any kind; asking for (help with them) results in a ban. Please read the forum rules and SPF FAQ and Accepted Gameplay Rules for details on acceptable play in the SP(T)F. You may find the D2 Terms and Abbreviations thread useful.

Unsupported mods and programs

Pretty much anything not in here or in the Accepted Gameplay Rules. If in doubt, PM both Moderators for clarification and wait for a response before posting.

Supported mods, muling applications and utilities

These are things that make the life of an SPF'er easier and more fun.

Muling applications

This is a way of moving items around. It also allows a large number of items to be kept in stashes away from your D2 character. ATMA is the original muling utility, GoMule is a java-based utility that also works on Macs. Both work for version 1.11b and 1.12a.

They both use the same files: .d2s is save, .d2x is a stash file, .org are ATMA backups. If you rename .orgs to .d2s or .d2x (depending on what it is) you can open it in ATMA or GoMule. ATMA supports .d2i files but these should NOT be used.

ATMA - Installer download - guide (and, no guarantees it will stay active, but here's the old ATMA site on diii.net)
GoMule - download and guide
Silo's home page with other stuff

Symantec flagging ATMA as a virus/adware

It is a false positive. This post and this post shows how to get around it.

A. Go to Options -> Game Edit and click on the "Character Link" tab. The last option (freeform) should be checked. If not, click on it and hit Apply.

Game Modifications

These change the game out of the box in some way. There are three which are accepted on the SPF:
RWM enables Bnet only runewords. RRM changes the colours of runes to red. CRM enables changing the rune colours to many different colours.

RWM for PC 1.11b and 1.12a- download - Guide
RRM for PC 1.11b and 1.12a - download - Updated link - Guide
NOTE the .7z file is a .zip file with RWM/RRM conveniently packaged together. Just unzip that in the D2 folder as it is, change the shortcuts so they match the last photo in the guide and you should have BOTH RWM and RRM working.
CRM for PC 1.11b and 1.12a- download

RWM/RRM for Macs 1.11b and 1.12a separately here - download - Guide

RWM/RRM and Ubuntu

But recently, I found out how to do it without that.

3 important steps:

1) Install the mods in the normal way - Note you have to install RWM in the base dir, not a seperate one like the guide suggests.

So you should have something similar to:

D2 dir: /home/you/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Diablo 2
RWM: /home/you/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Diablo 2/data/global/excel/Runes.txt
RRM: /home/you/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Diablo 2/data/local/lng/eng/expansionstring.tbl
/home/you/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Diablo 2/data/local/lng/eng/patchstring.tbl

2) IMPORTANT: Cd to the base d2 directory: cd /home/you/.wine/drive_c/Program Files/Diablo 2

If you recall, windows has a box in shortcuts that says "run in". This is not present in Linux, the "run in" variable is taken from the current directory the terminal is in. This is the step I missed and without it, you won't be able to run the mods.

3)
wine Diablo II.exe -direct -txt -ns -w

(Or without the ns and w if you want sound and full screen )

Hope that works!

Reporting Utilities

Flavie is a reporting tool which can show you how many of each unique, set, rune and gems you have and whether they are in use, eth or in a stash.

Flavie - download

Character Planners

Some good online ones are in the SPF FAQ for offline planning use:
Charsi by Mursilis - download and guide here

D2 and Macs
D2 and Macs by Jamiesixgun

Other Game Changes

We don't allow many of these and they should always be cleared by the Moderators before being used.

Modified d2gfx.dll to run more than one copy of D2 at a time - downloads - download the version you need and rename the file to d2gfx.dll

UPDATE - Blizzard will BAN you from Battlenet for using this. If you log onto Battlenet use the original D2gfx.dll file. Don't forget to backup your old DLL file, especially if you may want to play on BNet.

D2 Variants

These are variants of D2 with different gameplay. MP and trading withing these varients are allowed but they may not interact with 'normal, out of the box' D2. No other mods are accepted here.

Median - download - support
Probably the best known mod. Incredibly work by Laz.

Hell Unleashed - download and game info
Hell just IS .... This is TOUGH.

Eastern Sun - download and information

Other information

Stopwatch programs for longer period timing links here
Run counters - JJs and K-T's download links here - Silo's advanced counter here
Charsi skill planner - download - support

Re: HELP - atma/gomule, rwm/rrm, dll's and variants

Heya.

I recently started playing diablo II again(classic for the time being - no LoD disc) and this time around I'm using a mac. . .which unfortunately (and much to my chagrin) means that in order to mule I must resort to gomule. I downloaded said program last night and proceeded to transfer a number of good quality gems and some fcr rings to a fledgling sorc of mine. (going for f-orb!) When I attempted to load the game I was confronted with a strange error message 'Bad Dead Bodies' My other char loaded fine. . albeit with less by way of loot. I think it may have somthing to do with the fact that I did not transfer anything from the sorc to the pally. . . anyways, I've googled the error and it seems it has something to do with hacked items. I found this puzzling and kinda disturbing. I was muling and have no intention of wrecking the fun of the game via hacking let alone the ability.

Is there any solution to this problem/error message -- or should I just bite the bullet and make a new sorceress? hmm also gomule refuses to open up her file.
thanks for the help.

Re: HELP - atma/gomule, rwm/rrm, dll's and variants

If you mess around too much with the game values, you'll go into error territory and the game will reject your character.

Plus GoMule doesn't work with classic characters, so that explains that.

Re: HELP - atma/gomule, rwm/rrm, dll's and variants

Hmmm, well yes - that would indeed explain my problem then.

I should mention that it has actually been working to some degree. I started up a few new chars (pally/barb/sorc) and leveled them up to 5 using transfered items. My main pally got the error as well -- but I had backed up the actual saves by that point and just reloaded him.

I guess gomule does work with classic characters, kinda -- you just have to back-up everything before you use it!

No, it really doesn't work with classic characters. It's not a 'kinda', it's a 'it doesn't work'. Regardless of what it might look like on the surface, underneath it really doesn't work properly

Re: HELP - atma/gomule, rwm/rrm, dll's and variants

so will it completely thrash my .d2s files if I continue to use it /play classic? One of my buddies is letting me have his old lod disc on friday. . I probably could wait till then to mule if that is the reccomendation.
thanks for the feedback.

Re: HELP - atma/gomule, rwm/rrm, dll's and variants

Eek, I'm sorry Lone_Wolf, that's not my problem. It looks like you're seeing a bug in Java itself and it seems reasonably common: http://www.google.com/#hl=en&q=J++su...fp=DLh7wmTRH1c

I'd uninstall Java and reinstall, see what happens. Also, running java with the command line option -J-Dsun.java2d.noddraw=true should resolve it if you don't want to reinstall.
