The Dark Path

Its about ganking, stealing and betraying.

What do we define as a "dark" mage or "dark night"? What is this fantasy evil?
Is it all about wearing skulls all over and dark cloaks? Summon skeletons?
Only a kid could believe this.

I think "dark" basicly means a super asshole. An evil way of life which means pushing around the weak and being selfish.

I think in d3 there should be a choice for a player to be an asshole or a honorable knight. That means the game must ENCOURAGE ganking, stealing and so on.
Why?
Because its realistic this way. The evil isnt evil just for fun. MOst crimes are commited for a benefit. If there is a reward for being an asshole, a lot of people will become assholes, maybe the most! And THEN you can be a true knight and fight the true evil (in form of selfish players) to experience a never-been, epic and psychologically deep fight-for-SOMETHING system.

Re: The Dark Path

I don't think you want to encourage being an asshole. It's just going to make people un-happy as griefing rates soar.

Ofcourse it will make people unhappy. Thats the whole point. But as long as the loss is kept small, there will be enough motivation to either avenge your self or become smarter to avoid dangerous situations.

Im talking about a realistic experience of being in danger all the time, just like you are if you are out in the wilderness.

The need to judge the situation and your own possibilities.
Sure a lot of slow thinkers will lose interest in the game as they see themselves constantly out-witted.
But for me it would be just a really cool chalenge.

Add to this the unique feature of being really evil or rightous.

Re: The Dark Path

PK isn't possible any more. Blizzard is limiting game sizes to 4 because they want everyone in a game to be playing With each other instead of just near.

There's danger enough in Diablo without other players coming to grief you. Griefing is never a part of the game and you're an idiot for suggesting as such.

Re: The Dark Path

Actualy Galabab brought a nice idea.Adding this option to the game will make it more realistic and interesting. Just imagine to ureself a clan of PKrs or a guild of thieves or from others side - bounty hunters for them and rewards for their ears :-p

Re: The Dark Path

I think this doesn't fit well with the Diablo world or atmosphere.

Diablo needs to be all about cooperation. Not evil players, nor steals, nor irritate to others... Just all about cooperation.

There are tones of games for good/evil characters. I think these things don't fit in Diablo. Fortunately, I suppose Blizzard thinks the same as me.

@Grug:
You dont get it dude.
Did you even read the explanation WHY i thought it would make sense?
But im an idiot right so why care?

@Dusk:
Yes man thats exactly what i was imagining.
Real meanies and real heroes who battle them though they are underdogs.

@Valmy:
I guess your right if you mean it doesnt really fit in diablo as we know it, yes. Maybe that idea of mine should wait for an other game...
But i dont know what you mean by ton of games with good/evil.
I only know you can gank hostile faction in WoW. But its very limited too and its a war story-wise so thats nothing mean or evil really.
Can you name a singe game where you really can be the asshole? And im not talking about bugged or badly balanced games.

Re: The Dark Path

What, it's "realistic"? People are going to grief, gank, and steal without needing encouragement. The Danger comes from the Monsters everywhere. If you "legalize" griefing you're going to please a very small group of people who get off on screwing other players, while everyone else is going to hate it.

But why are we arguing? It's not like anything we do here is going to be in the final game. So post whatever you want. If all you want is praise for your idea, you're not getting any from me.

well this looks like a serious response.
First i dont want to only see my idea prased. Criticism sharpens ideas and shows their flaws. So i welcome any contribution as long as its friendly.

DAnger from monsters is one thing. Long known and as old as videogames.
Im talking about a revolutionary game concept.

The evil itself is not the horned polygon beast but its the evil in behavior and this can only be found in real people.

Battling REAL EVIL in a game, thats what im talking about.
