HellFire + Cmd.txt - Bow-Rogue: Mixed Up intentions MFing?
(Hell Fire + Command.txt mods)
Hello all... so I've got a lvl 25 bow-rogue and I'm a little confused about MFing; I'm not really sure about how to go about it since quests, once finished, are obviously over & not repeatable... So now I'm at the level where all I have left is Diablo. So what's next? I've heard about Lanthanide's "method," but haven't found anything concrete... could someone point me in the right direction?
I really hope I don't have to start a new MP char...?
Re: HellFire + Cmd.txt - Bow-Rogue: Mixed Up intentions MFing?
there's really no point in MF'ing in Diablo single player unless you have an MP char, since you can only replay normal, and it's easy anyway. plus you've got to work your way down through all of the church/cats/caves to get to the hell levels. As is covered in some other threads and explained in the wiki, once you've got a MP char of at least level 30 you can use that char to enable your SP char to play in NM/Hell games.
However, it's recommended that you play MP in D1 unless you're just having fun getting to level 25ish. The monsters are much harder and SP gets very easy at higher levels.

Oh you again! Been following my trail of posts I see (thx), yeah I've beat D1+HF norm, and just frankly gave up on NM b/c my Bow-Rogue is way underpowered, even with some pretty nice gear too... So I'm starting over playing The Dark Mod with a Bard, who's (not surprising) getting handled atm, with some awesome gear at my clvl... Geesh. I used to be a pro at this game, now I"m all washed up lol!
These mods or what have you, allow me to choose from norm/nm/hell regardless of clvl, so it seems. I guess I have gone about this backwards and made my primary char 1st, before making a true MF Sorc... DOH! Any tips on MF build to start?
Re: HellFire + Cmd.txt - Bow-Rogue: Mixed Up intentions MFing?
I played The Dark for a bit but gave it up after a bit. The rogue was terribly underpowered, and the way that monsters all wake up when you shoot one of them seemed designed solely to persecute ranged attackers. I kept finding boss packs with sonar shooting, and then suddenly 10 or 12 monsters would come storming over from 2 or 3 screens away. I then tried a warrior and he was so much easier that it was a laugher until the crypt.
Overall, the balance of things didn't much impress me. Too easy or too hard early on, and then big shifts as new monsters came into play. Also, the gap between the quality of found items and the various quest reward uniques was just insane. I don't recall the exact stats, but you'd see nothing but magical items with negligible stats, and then get a quest reward helm for killing an early quest boss that had like +20 to all, 30% res all, +10 damage, etc. More stat bonuses from that one item than from everything else I was wearing at that point. Items with big stats are fun, but all the end game info I saw made clear that long term every char would be using nothing but super powerful uniques, and that didn't appeal to me. Seemed very cookie cutter, and sort of artificial, with the uniques having 10x the stats of magical items.
I might try The Dark again at some point, and it was very interesting and a great change and lots of variety, but for me playing just an hour or two every now and then, it was too much work to get into the totally changed game, figure out the new techniques, in a game that was so unbalanced and unforgiving.
Re: HellFire + Cmd.txt - Bow-Rogue: Mixed Up intentions MFing?
Yeah I'm starting to agree, even with my limited experience; Being that I've been playing Diablo-X for over 10yrs... it's easy to see where things are going after a good 4-5hrs of total play. I'm going to stick it out and see what I can do, but it sure isn't easy to say the least...
The real problem for me regarding these games is keeping the game interesting and not getting caught up in DII's "item-hunt," b/c in reality that's what it becomes, once you've rushed the game 1000's of times etc... And once you have crazy items, it becomes even more of a farce. I hope DIII isn't at all "item-hunt," and that's where the free-roam GTA type conditions come into play. Free-Roam + MANY side quests from NPCs = that's what keeps me playing GTA-SA even though I've beaten it many times over. There's always something *else* you can get into or play around with...
Okay... Geesh I guess I'm going to have to start up a MF sorc for The Dark and hope it's not too difficult... Ciao!

Yeah, played it, didn't commit long enough to get far. Def open@! I just think Diablo II was too guided, but then again that was the nature of the game and there's the story behind it, which makes the game direction. I just wish there was MANY MANY more side stories from NPCs or just random quests to possibly attain very rare items that would be uniquely generated AND only a limited supply (MPlayer esp) so that you cannot farm/MF run them. They are just completely unique.

You should play D1 Middle Earth if you want a good mod. Hopefully you can find it on the net somewhere. If not, I *might* have an archieved copy somewhere around home that I can dig up. Maybe. If you're lucky.
