idea 2 stop account thefts

hi, was wondering if D3 will have a way to stop account theft's like sacred does, in sacred when you make an account to play multiplayer you half to add the cd key,

How does that stop account theft?

If you have to add the cd key, and they steal your password trough a keylogger for example, then they will also have the cd key the same way.

stop downloading programs not supported by bliz and you will get alot less account thefts

yes thats what i maen, to log onto my account you'd need my cd key, so no one can log onto your account if they dont have your cd key.

No offense to anyone, but account thefts are generally only a problem for people that just aren't careful enough. No third party programs and not falling in obvious traps will almost ensure that you'll never lose your account to thieves.

However, that CD key binding does sound like a good thing to implement, though.

Yup, as long as you don't share your accounts/passwords with anybody and down download third party programs, you should be quite alright. Sadly, there are always quite a decent amount of people that don't abide by those simple rules

Thats nice and all, but if you have a compromised computer, then what stops the thieves from getting your cd key as well?
After all, it's simply an encrypted number stored somewhere in the registry (that is, somewhere in a file on your hard disk).

It will help to some extend though. The account thefts from *friends* to who you told your password (why????), can't happen anymore. Unless you also let them go trough your drawers and find the CD key hidden in one of your socks. Or if you let them at your computer without supervision, and if they happen to know where to look, wich most people don't.

So yeah, it will probably help a little.
