I actually think he brings up a valid and different point. When Diablo II came out, we saw no more of the rogue, warrior, and barely the same sorceror.
The amazon took the place the rogue held; but the amazon plays very diffierently than the rogue. She was far more complex, had decoy spells, had elemental spells, AoE, debuffs; all sorts of things.
The warrior was sort of replaced by the paladin or the barbarian. But we can obviously tell (without going into much detail) that the two new melee classes held little resemblance to the old warrior.
And the soceress was changed simply as the gameplay was changed. Each character now had it's character tree, unlike in diablo where you learned them from tomes.
But with diablo 3; we've seen the barbarian play almost identically with it's d2 counterpart, save for a flashier animations. The necromancer was ditched for a character who will have very similar gameplay. Curse, distract with minions, spam spells.
Why didn't ANY of the D1 heroes make it into d2?
Because they went insane.
That part of the story is a little grim. I know it's too early to judge the storyline of the game, but from what we've seen in other aspects of the game , alot of the will be alot less grim.
That's not to say that this is a bad thing; though. As it is, d3 is a new game and should be a brand new experience. That's what we all want. That's what we enjoyed about both diablo games in the past. It's just that, as the game took it's time to be released, we became attached to other parts of the game as well.
