About the sword in the intro

What about the sword in the intro? Never seen anything like that ingame and it doesnt seem to be anything in the story about a "sword in the stone". I´ve always wondered what it was about.

Anyone have a clue?

Thats kind of weird. Since it is a huge part of the intro, maybe it was a part of the story originally, but was later cut out, and they didnt want to remake the intro ^^ .

Re: About the sword in the intro

As I often caution about cinematics, don't take what's in them too literally for the game. They're produced by different teams, often different companies, and are commissioned months or even years before the game itself is done, since the cinematics take a long time to produce and can't be edited much once production begins.

That's less true on modern bliz cinematics, since the teams are in the same building in Irvine and can coordinate closely, but for the D1 cinematic, I'd say they had no more design goals than to create a moody, gloomy, gothic atmosphere and to show some previews of the demons. You never enter empty cottages with blowing shutters or see glowing tombs being opened from within either, and those images feature prominently in the cinematic.

I would be EXTREMELY impressed if that would be the case, connecting with the intromovie in diablo1 .

Well maybe they just wanted to do a cool movie. But the glowing chest is a very small part, and the buildings look quite like the ones ingame (even though u cant enter them) while the sword seems to be a big part of it.

Re: About the sword in the intro

I think that it is the cursed sword Shadowfang. You see, the guys who made the game originaly had Preist named Trimain, or something like that, and he gave you a quest to find the sword Shadowfang. He said that the demon Fleshdoom wielded the sword, but when you went to deafeat him, he didnt have it. But later on you supposedly find it.
