Unique classes anyone?

Am I the only one who wants to see completely new classes? Yeah it would be cool to re-work some of the older ones but I would rather see something brand new. I don't want to go play D3 when it's released and feel like I'm playing a redone version of D2. Some stuff will carry over but I am hoping for as little familiarity as possible as far as classes go.

Yeah, it'd be great if the new classes are totally different from previous classes. I think there's enough diversity in world cultures and styles for Blizzard to draw in distinctly fun and unique classes.

Or even concept classes, such as a tactician, who would play as an RTS with hirelings, formations, flanking, and other means of support play.

I completely agree with the OP. I was hoping the old chrs from d2 could either get wiped out or just be NPC's in town.

Re: Unique classes anyone?

yeah, all-new classes would be great, but like the barb as basic fighter, there's gotta be a basic spell caster, like the sorc in d2. the wd has elements of necromancy, which i would also consider to be a basic sort of must-have ability/class for an rpg like this. they will also have a ranged char that will be a lot like the ama, im sure. the question is, how creative are the blizzard people in incorporating popular but old and somewhat worn-out skills in new character classes. i think the wd, though not very original, does a decent job of combining the lame necro and ele dudu skills.

In all rpgs, theres a ranger, a summoner, a spellcaster and a fighter. Therefore teh classes won't "change" even though the names change.

Re: Unique classes anyone?

really there is only so many ways to kill things and whatever they come up with will probably have already been done by another game. so pretty much it comes down to putting your own spin on the standard class, the witch doctor is a good example of it imo

What about a mage slaying assasin that uses technologicaly advanced magical 'minions' Oh...

No, everyone wants to see new classes. Theres really not much to speculate on as like has been stated, theres only so many ways to kill something.

Hence the Barbarian returning, since they couldn't think of a melee battling brute that was different enough to change the name. I'm wondering how they'll pull it off with the mages; necromancers, amazons, assassins, druids, and paladins were pretty specific, with a game fiction and a set types of skills. But the sorceress was basically an updated sorcerer from d1, and both were quite archetypal magic users. They've got to have a magic user/caster mage type char in D3, don't they? So how are the reinventing it enough that we won't all be like, "It's just a Sorceress with different elements."

That's the situation now with the WD vs. Necromancer, though that impression might be quite flawed, since we're judging by a few short looks and some skill descriptions. The characters probably play a great deal differently in actual practice, from what Jay and other bliz dudes have said, and comparisons between WD and Necro will seem irrelevant once we actually get to play the WD?
