warrior difficulties

it seems like the warrior is actually the toughest and slowest of the three character types to level/play in the beginning.

the warrior is the most gear dependant, since the warrior has to be in danger to kill, where the rogue and sorcerer don't.

contrary to the description and most games with "warrior" type characters, the warrior is really the final character u should try it seems. its more for veterans due to its difficulties. as a new person (like me) would have trouble with it, unlike the ease of a rogues bow attacking or a sorcerers spell attacks.

its much easier to do the sorcerer or even the rogue. killing speed and safety is much more than the warrior. as long as u play them correctly. using spells from afar with the sorcerer and shooting arrows from afar with rogue. because the warrior has to walk to target to kill or wait and engage up close. it makes killing/clearing areas of dungeon very very slow.

also, how do u deal (or do most of u just ignore) with archers?

they destroy u in early clvls when u dont have much good gear. and its a real pain trying to walk them down and corner them...especially when all the others are piercing u with arrows as u try to track just one down and kill it.

with that being said, similiar to my other post, what tips can u gyus give to maximise the speed and power of the warrior in the beginning to progress through the dungeon and level up fastest, being able to continually survive and kill quickly (EXcluding, finding good gear) ????

Re: warrior difficulties

The warrior actually got an easier time in the beggining then the sorceror and the rogue in my opinion.
It's first in Hell with the Witches and Advocates that things get tough and the sorceror and rogue gets an easier time.

Here is a few tips to make your Warrior powerful in the beggining:

1. Max Dexterity first! Perhaps get your magic up to 17 to learn Heal, but otherwise keep putting points into Dexetrity.
This will make you hit your enemies and most importantly make you able to block their attacks!

2. Always use a Sword and a Shield, never a 2hand weapon!

3. AC is very important! Always make sure you got the best armor available, update often!
Dont worry about resists and stuff like that yet, always go for the armor and shield with the most AC.

If you keep your dex high, use shield and have high AC most enemies will have a really hard time hitting you in the beggining.
Even the Butcher will be a piece of cake since he rarely hit you.

4. Skeletons take less damage from swords, and more from blunt weapons like clubs. If you find a good club, save it and use it on skeletons!
Holy Bolt can help alot against Skeleton Archers.

5. If you find a sword of swiftness or haste, keep it! It will make you able to stunlock ranged attackers!

6. Only use normal health potions and the Heal-spell, don't buy Full Health Potions since you will not need them.
Spend your money on better armor, shields and swords instead!

Good luck with your warrior! I recently got mine to level 26 and killed Diablo.
Stone Curse is your friend in Hell!

Re: warrior difficulties

I play almost exclusively Warriors, and do not usually have much difficulty. They perhaps are a bit slower but I don't often run into scrapes I can't handle. The Butcher and King Leoric will both really challenge you, but normal enemies should be pretty easy until you hit the Caves.

The biggest tips I can give you are:

1. Know your limits. Go slow. Yes, if you rush into the middle of that big room expecting to just dice your way through, you'll get creamed. You are not a crowd-control specialist. Act accordingly and only activate the number of monsters you can reasonable corral and defeat in one bite.

2. If the difficulty is ramping up too quickly, stay where you are! If the cats are too much for you, start a new game and redo the church. It's likely you'll gain some more levels, find a few gear upgrades and probably a good shrine or two, and you'll be better prepared for your next challenge. Works on any level.

Good luck!

Re: warrior difficulties

ya, i've learned a bit and also made lots of mistakes and had bad luck at the time i made my first post.

my mistakes:

i tried raising vit and mag. the vit didn't help any at all. monsters killed me just as fast as when i had base vit. the magic too was a waste, i'd learn all these spells but i'd rarely ever use any of them except heal and if i was lucky to get town portal. the warrior casts way to slow to begin with and has hardly any mana anyways. so, i feel now that raising vit and magic is a waste in early clvls.

my bad luck:

as of yet i never got even a decent shield drop. so i have always been going 2 handed. i know to use a shield!!! but i never got a decent one yet...grrrr!!! i tried using a useless shield with like 3 ac and thats it! the blocking (or recovery?) was too slow. the mosnters would put me into block-stun lock. so i'm like this is even worse, and went back to 2 handed.

what i learned:

1. raise dex and str !!!
2. high life doesn't mean anything by itself.
3. gear is what keeps u alive
4. have high magic resist when u encounter the spitting dogs so u don't die !!!
5. get the other spell resists (lightning and fire) as u encouter them.
6. with out high str and/or a good weapon u can't quickly kill off the big demons and that is dangerous as they do lots of damage to u the longer u let them swing and hit u.

Re: warrior difficulties

As others said, raise dex early on. Warriors have really bad to/hit at the start, and missing swings is what causes you to get damaged, since you can usually kill monsters in just a couple of hits. Also, you gain hps with every level up, and quite a few low-mid level items have +hit points. You start finding of the wolf and other such mods pretty early on, and can easily tack on 100hps from 2 or 3 items.

It's also very handy to carry a decent mace along with sword. The damage bonus to undead is great in the church with so many skeletons and zombies, esp against the skeleton king's army.
