detailed guide for each (warrior, rogue, sorcerer) low level character?
as a noob to d1, i dont really know what i should be doing during low levels. lots of great guides for higher levels and high end gear u want to strive for, but there's not really any specific and detailed info for low levels.
questions i have:
1. for example, stats (err attributes i think they are called in d1) (str=strength, dex=dexterity, vit=vitality, nrg=energy or mag=magic) (ach...is it called magic or energy..can't remember right now) :
1A. with a starting warrior which is best to raise? or should u raise them all so they are same amount? is it better to pump str up (for damage and gear) or vit (for life) or dex (for to hit and ac, and damage if rogue) or nrg/mag (for magic stuff), and also taking into account the stat/attribute potions u can find in dungeon or buy in town, only being able to lvl up to clvl 50, etc ?
1B. same questions with a rogue and sorcerer
2. should u try to learn spells in the beginning (for each of the 3 character types) or ignore spells until later?
3. what gear should u be looking out for at low levels (for each of the 3 character types)
4. should u specifically (aka go out of your way) take time to grow your gold pool (like to buy the stat potions or gear from wirt like for those good mods u can only get at lvl 17-19? i read some where for the armors?) or let it naturally build up at least until higher levels than get huge gold for whatever needs?
5. fastest (or good methods) way to level up?
5A. is it better to play a single game as far as u can or should u reset the game over lots during low levels?
6. any other such details for while still at low char levels
As a mage at low levels I normally ignore magic, instead putting points into vit and str to wear better items/armor. At the very low clvls you don't have a big enough mana pool (or the gold to buy potions) to really use your spells much. I would always try and rely on staves for spells, with firebolt, lightning and firewall being the preferred ones. I would often stick with staves even up until the cats levels, until you start getting your spells to higher slvls to the point where the mana/gold consumption is worthwhile using them instead of staves.
With a sorc it is often a good idea to farm the church and cats levels for books to help ramp your spells up sooner. Lightning is a spell you'll definitely want before about dlvl 7 or 8, fireball less so (doesn't get useful until svl 5-6, but lightning is good from slvl 1-2).
Don't worry about gold until you get to clvl 20 and can do nightmare games - at that point you can start pulling in the gold very quickly.
Be on the look out for items that increase your magic attribute and keep them. These will come in handy when you want to read a book, but don't have high enough magic. This will enable you to use Lanthanide's tips and still be able to read most low level books. Always keep the higher ones that you find and sell/mule the older ones. Say you find a staff that increases your magic by 10, but find a shield and sword that increase your magic both by 6. Keep the sword and shield so you can increase your magic by 12 instead of just 10. When you find a book that you can't read, equip the +Magic items and read the book. Then take the +Magic items off and switch back to your battle gear if you want. It may seem obvious to some, but it might not be obvious to all.

flux's expert mage guide (i think it was) suggests raising each by 1 with the extra going to magic, to use staves for the charges and repair them and use them again for the free spells and to save money to buy mana shield when it becomes available (clvl 11 if i read jarulf's treatise correctly, for 16000 gold).
I usually relied on mana shield scrolls and staves until I got lucky to find a book or managed to have enough gold. I don't think I ever really made it a goal to save 16k just to buy it.
Also for low clvl mages, when you read a book it will replenish some of your mana for free, so you can keep books around in your INV until you're low on mana before you read them.
Do a Google search for "freshman diablo" and you'll find a good site with excellent beginner's guides for the warrior and sorc, a decent beginner's guide to the rouge, a spellcraft guide, shrine guide, and other cool stuff. Should be what you're looking for.
the freshman diablo d1 stuff was very nice. i read most of the otehr guides and stuff out there but never knew/seen the guides on freshman diablo google source. i seen the 1st 3 guides, those are up at lots of places, but those other guides on it were new to me. never seen them before.

though some of them were still a bit too vague, short, and lacking more detailed and specific information/suggestions/etc...but oh well.
i'm jsut frustrated with the warrior. too slow (as in killing the monsters within a dungeon, not as in PER monster. warrior kills 1v1 very well. but clearing out a dungeon is so slow, especially compared to sorcerer)...and very difficult.
Warrior is slower initially, since he's eq dependent while sorcs improve rapidly with books, and especially once you get some fireball and a mana shield. Sorcs are alwyas faster, so just get used to that with a warrior, but if/when you can get a good sword of haste with a warrior and enough to/hit that you hardly ever miss, he becomes quite fun. You need some decent magic and teleport as well, long term, so you can do the fun stuff with telekilling and stone cursing and corner timing traps, so you're not walking through half the level after witches and mages.
Also, learning how fast to advance and what you can safely take on at once speeds things up a lot. If you wake the monsters in singly and in small groups you can slaughter without retreating much, or slowing down because you're getting hit/hurt. Warriors eventually have impressive damage, good to/hit and critical strike, and with a haste sword they can kill anything very quickly one on one.
They're also very good playing co-op with a friend, since unlike with a mage or a rogue, you won't kill each other from half a level away with a stray fireball/chain lightning/arrow. Two warriors together can really have fun, since standing side by side you can easily hold those 3-wide hallways in hell, and just devastate melee enemies, while wreaking chaotic havoc on levels of casters.
i started this thread cuz i was lazy and wanted the fastest (most efficient) way to build characters for optiminal ability and leveling. like what stats to raise. concentrate on getting magic spells or not. reseting the game over and over staying in lower areas longer or playing a single game as far as u can get. etc...
pretty much wanted to be "BABY-FED" on what to do while in low character levels (i guess from clvl 1-20 and than maybe 20-30)
Yeah this is the type of guide I'm currently trying to find right now... But not having much luck on google/archives... It's like the Diablo-1 well is just dried up... Sad I'm getting into HellFire.
