Seriously they need a mage, they aren't going to change the complete play style and balance of the game. So a sorceror or sorceress is pretty much confirmed. Think about it. Also don't know if anyone noticed but a "Short Staff" dropped in the gameplay video right after the barb rescues cain.
Witch Doctors may use a staff. I think in the same Demo Video the female witch Doctor that joins the party when they're "trapped" by that group of Goat Men is wielding one. Still it wouldn't be much of a fantasy R.P.G. without a Mage/Sorcerer/Wizard.
If I'm not mistaken, that image is from the monster types artwork. Meaning you can by no means exclude that a mage will be present based on that image.
However, I don't think anyone here expects a Diablo game without some form of caster (and the witch doctor is by my measures not enough).
A little OT perhaps but blizzard themselves have said that the inclusion of the WD class isn't the end of the necromancer. I can't remember the link atm but I'm 100% sure that's what they said.
I have a feeling the elementalist character will be less focused on a bunch of different projectile spells, and have more even distribution of types of spells, which should give better variants for their gameplay.
I'm pretty sure there will be a elemental caster though.
Upon the revelation of whatever elemental caster I hope that the spells aren't broken up into three different elemental skill trees. I'd like to see spells like... Offensive spells, defensive spells, combat spells. Meaning that "Fireball" would be like an Offensive Spell, "Mana Shield" would be a defensive spell, and "Enchant" would be a combat spell.
Those names are only placeholders, I can't imagine what the skill trees (if any) will be in Diablo III. I would just like to see a bit of versatility in the class.
It would be interesting to have a close range caster/attacker, or long range Caster variants. With combinations of each element in each "tree".

It was just speculation that's all.
But they do have pictures of the WD and Barb in the pictures area. It's a little too holy/heaven-worshipping imo to be a monster. But that's just me.
If that is some type of paladin shoot-off group then that is going to be a very interesting class i think. IF it is a character, i think that will be the caster.
my two cents, we'll have to wait and see but im excited

2 things
1; The image of a goats head is incredibly clear and has been used as an antithesis to that which is considered holy.
2; Blizzard isn't so silly has to include concept for a class that hasn't been announced yet in the art section. Read Bashiok's description about how scripted the gameplay video was, it is safe to assume that this is an overarching philosophy about revealing content and that this is not a playable class.

Telling you man. The trees should be:
Enchantment (self buffs and party buffs and weapon buffs)
Conjuring (summoning elementals and clouds and things that act on their own)
Evocation (projectile spells)

Actually If you remember Blizz posted the an artwork trailer along with the other 2 which got pulled after a day or two, it's quite possible a mistake was done. In that trailer we saw several mage like characters that looked similar to the picture there, which was also in the trailer. Only difference was in the colour of their equipment.
Also in that trailer a druid like character that had snakes and the like was showed, that's what fueled that druid speculations that exist.
