A /follow command for D3 ?

This may be a controversial topic however this post is not intended as pro vs con of Multiple Instances. So please refrain from debating that issue here.

For the moment let us presume Blizzard does allow us to run Multiple Instances of D3 on our computer(s). Would there likely be an “auto-follow” type of command? With D2 and Windows User Switching (WinXP) we are able to run more than a single copy of the game per computer. However, there is no auto-follow type of command in the game, so moving around in game with more than one character is clumsy at best

Currently, in D2 I basically use my 2nd character to keep a mule game going, or I switch and port him into the zone for Battle Orders at the Waypoint. Anything more gets really tricky, like trying to run my 2nd character to the Chaos Sanctuary. It can be done but it is more trouble than I like.

A command like /follow “character name” would be grand. I doubt it’ll happen but it’s on my wish list.

Re: A /follow command for D3 ?

Well, if Blizzard will expand the stash, we won't need mules anymore.
Anyway I imagine the mess with every character that creates followers. A swarm of mules! Hehe

Commands like that would be nice for mercenaries instead. Somethig like a "regroup!" button or "stay close". No more stupid wandering.. ah, it would be nice.

Re: A /follow command for D3 ?

I think a "/follow" command would encourage leeching, but at the same time it would allow players to go away from the keyboard for a moment without losing the group. I doubt it would be needed, in a game like WoW the world is huge and travel takes a long time, but in Diablo (from what we've seen) it would be easy to waypoint to your group, run, or just get a town portal from one of them. In additional to muleing it would allow for the single-player self rushing, which wouldn't match with the emphasis on co-op play.

Re: A /follow command for D3 ?

There's nothing really to gain, except giving another advantage to people who have 2 instances of the game. As mentioned losing the party is pretty much a non factor in diablo, particularly when it looks like you can simply "warp" to your party members.

I don't think features should be implemented explicitly and solely for people who own multiple copies of the game. It sends the wrong message imo.
