Enchanting?

Not in the Elder Scrolls sense of making completely customized items. I mean like Charsi's imbue quest, only in the form of a reusable service from an NPC. It would have to be way more expensive than gambling (assuming that returns), but you'd be guaranteed a rare. Too unbalanced, maybe?

Re: Enchanting?

I could only see this working if the NPC charged a lot of gold. Seems a little like gambling to me.

Re: Enchanting?

I think it's a good idea. Rares (as end game gear) are pretty lame in d2 unless you get that one in a million super duper one with a string of just right mods. You can reroll rares anyway with pskulls.

Re: Enchanting?

if your idea has to be followed up by "but it costs a ton of gold." you might want to step back and think if your idea is really very clever at all.

Re: Enchanting?

Not really a fair judgment considering that gold will supposedly be worth something

Re: Enchanting?

Gambling on its own is already overpriced when it comes to money invested vs. return. I don't see anything wrong with this idea based on this, and the fact that getting a GOOD rare is extremely, well, rare.

Re: Enchanting?

They had something like this in Mythos. You could "enchant" many items which added a mod to the item (not guaranteed to be helpful). You could do this until you had reached the maximum amounts of mods for that item, and some of the enchantments were not permanent, and would wear off after a while. If you got an undesirable mod, you were stuck with it, so it wasn't like you could infinitely re-roll item mods.
