Caster itemization

I am wondering will they implement +magic damage stat in D3. Do you think it would help caster scaling? As your damage only goes up by skill level + synergies while melee characters had str + skills+ synergies to up their damage.

Just a thought i had about what could be a nice feature to "steal" from wow in D3.

Re: Caster itemization

In Median, I have the usual +skill levels, but also +% [element] spell damage in great quantities, -% enemy resist, +energy (which in Median boosts spell damage), and '+energy factor' which causes energy to be better at the latter.

The result is that spell damage scales faster than weapon damage instead of slower. Aaargh.

Ideally, both should scale equally: weapon damage goes up with base weapon, better +% ED modifiers, strength/dexterity, skill level and passives/synergies/support skill level (ED% aura etc.) and +% IAS. Spell damage should have 6 scaling factors as well: skill level, +skills, +% FCR, passives/synergies/support skill level, and there are two missing in classic LoD because spells gain no damage from energy and +% spell damage is very rare.

Perhaps adding those two scaling factors would make spells balanced against weapons in all areas of the game?

Re: Caster itemization

This is a good idea. I've never really thought much about it, but it seems like a must in these types of games.

Normally i would say that they would definitely implement this feature, but based on the last two games, I'm not sure if they will.

Re: Caster itemization

From the gameplay video and screenshots, it seems like Blizzard is trying to simplify their items, not the other way around
