Endgame Wishlist

Somewhat spawned from the MF thread. I know many people enjoy MF a lot and I don't want to take that away, I just want to think of simple ways (little programming / content) to give the game a more robust metagame.

Note that I haven't REALLY seen any of these ideas put into any RPG let alone online RPG at this time.

Idea 1: Steal from WC3 mod maps, Enfos Team Defense. Basically have a constant stream of monsters come and gradually get stronger / more varied. The goal is to last as long as possible. This could be ranked, by team or by class or whatever.

Idea 2: Endless dungeon. Put in a dungeon or repeating skins and enemies, where the enemies simply keep getting harder and harder. The goal is to get to the deepest level possible. This could also be ranked. Perhaps the door could open once you kill all the enemies on the floor.

Idea 3: Time attack. Basically a timed zone, requires a boss kill and some mob kills, maybe require killing all the monsters, maybe not. That depends on the classes. Again, this could be ranked on a ladder.

I just think it would be cool to have something to really measure how much better your uber character is once you get all your gear and everything.

Re: Endgame Wishlist

Those ideas sound fun as long as the rewards for them don't outweight mfing and boss killing. It would also be great to get a map editor like wc3 but will likely not happen. Would be sweet to make your own Diablo adventures.

I like idea 2. Couple that with unlimited random quests and soft level cap and I will play until my fingers are bloody stumps from endless clicking on the mouse.

Re: Endgame Wishlist

I love Option 2. Have you ever played Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinistrals?

There is a 99-floor dungeon in that game. You have to leave all your equipment at the front door to begin it, but as you head deeper into the dungeon, you re-equip yourself via treasure chests on each floor. The monsters get progressively more difficult, and it's typically a crapshoot whether you're well-enough equipped by the 99th floor to take out the final boss. When you exit the dungeon, you lose all the equipment you've earned except for "artifacts" you've found in special blue chests, aka "uber gear."

One of the funnest game mechanics of all time, and I'd love to see something like that re-created.

As far as your other ideas, I think they're too arcade/mini-gameish.

OP ideas are all cool. This Lufia mechanic is also sweet though.

Re: Endgame Wishlist

An endgame PvP arena where players can choose to be any of the bosses they've encountered throughout the game to fight with

Re: Endgame Wishlist

the endless dungeon also sounds similar to the multi layered dungeons in the zelda games. Its been awhile so i cant remember if it was 50 levels or 100, but unless you knew what you were doing, it could be difficult.

Re: Endgame Wishlist

I love the idea of world events, like the Diablo Clone, etc. I think once you've beaten the game on whatever the highest difficulty is, there should be a set of events you can build towards, and a set that happens randomly on rare occasions. That way it pays to play more, for the chance to see these things happen.

I always thought a siege would be a fun event. Maybe the remaining forces of the final boss are making one last push against a random town, and you have to defend it. You'd get traps to set, hirelings (like the ones in the gameplay video) to place, and then just waves and waves of increasinly tougher monsters pour towards the walls. Fight them off, and you get a new title like "Defender" or something, plus some gear reward of course.

Re: Endgame Wishlist

I wub number two, without the Lufia drop items before you enter stuff. I want to go on a killing spree from level 1 to 99, not build towards being able to kill last level..
