Zealot

[ This is a serious class idea which would work to improve the previous Paladin class with new touches. Some lore has been taken into consideration. ]

The Paladin from Diablo 2 returned to the Knights of Westmarch, tormented by what he saw in his battle against the prime evils. He knew that the evil and mere destruction of the demons from Hell couldn't be defeated without the aid of the Light and the Heavens. The Paladin consulted with the angels themselves and decided to reform the Hand of Zakarum. To rid Sanctuary of evil, it would have to convert. His mind went from torment to ambition, and he felt redeemed. He was blessed with a new Light, more powerful than before.

Entering the Zealot.

The Zealot dresses in chainmail and shining armor, a holy shield and a flaming hammer or sword. He can specialize in three skill trees, being: Holy, Divine and Martyrdom.

The Holy tree improves his magical abilities and gives the Zealot powerful magical close combat spells, some holy AoE spells and even a few ranged spells. Spells such as Exorcism can totally destroy undead and demon targets, while the classic Holy Bolt can be fired from a distance and even heal a fellow comrade. This is the skill tree of the Smiter, who wishes to crush his enemies with a holy shield as well as fighting douzens and more enemies at once. This is the skill tree for the group friendly fighter of good who will be able to heal his comrades with the same speed and might as he's crushing his enemies. This is the skill tree for the banisher of darkness who wishes to specialize in undead and demon targets. The skill Holy Concecration burns the ground itself with a radiating glow, causing damage to targets and healing allies.

The Divine tree is the support tree for the Zealot. It has a variation of auras as well as abilities coming from the Heavens itself. Strike of Justice is one of them, which automatically charges a bolt of lightning from the skies to a nearby enemy, exploding in a small area of holy light, giving some of the damage done to the Zealot himself. The Holy Ghost spell temporarily exorcises the soul itself from an enemy and making it fight for the Zealot for a short amount of time. The Holy Ghost will when killed or disappearing, find a way to the Heavens, leaving only an explosion of Light as it reaches for the skies. The top tier of the Divine tree turns the Zealot into an angel of light, increasing his holy spell power and automatically heals every comrade within his area, while damaging every undead or demon.

The Martyrdom tree specializes in mere fast paced combat abilities, with the Zealots own blood as a source of power. The more destruction he wishes to make, the more it will cost from his own soul. In addition, the Martyr can drain the souls from his own victims and increase his own life force, constantly healing him as he's sacrificing himself. One skill is Slash of Blood, sacrificing 10% of his maximum life by slashing everyone in a circle around him. Heart of Justice shields the Zealot by reducing all damage taken and increasing the speed of which he replenishes life. The skill Life Drain also drains the life of a targeted enemy in a red beam which only breaks after 10 seconds or when the enemy is dead. For each second draining the life of the enemy, the Zealots melee damage increases by 10%.

The new Paladin class, the Zealot, will (if implemented) be a destructive force of purity. He will be awesome!

Re: Zealot

Too much flavor text and not enough gameplay mechanic ideas.
Remember: after the game has been played through the first few times people don't notice all the fancy lore-related stuff any more. The important ideas are the ones based around functionality and balancing. Keep it simple.
Not bad though.

Re: Zealot

I like most of it.
Thou the third skill arent so cool imo.
Also he should be called Templar not Zealot. Simply because i think it sounds cooler.

I really like the lore part about them cleansing the Temples of Zakarum, i really really hope we see the paladin returning holier than ever (with out overpowered hammer ofc).
