Had a little debate with my friend this evening over chat.
I started by asking him if he knew that the the hero from D1...the wanderer.....D2 Diablo.....was from Tristram originally. Reason i said this was because i recalled Ogden's intro from Diablo 1. "Greetings honored traveler, much has changed since you lived here my friend. All was peaceful until the Dark Riders came and destroyed our village...."
He said the following in retort. "It goes against a lot of facts logically and it's just -one- line from a dumb tavern owner who doesn't know crap about the chamber of bone- all that guy said was to talk to cain. Don't trust him, he's a total dunce. The sorcerer and rogue came from distant lands....but it may be directed towards the warrior."
I was curious because I also figured our hero came from their respective background areas. Perhaps it is just an oversight of Blizzard. Who knows.
Anyways - New Tristram is aparently not the same Tristram we all know and love rebuilt, but rather a further expansion of the town formed by those looking to loot the monestary.
"New Tristram has been in existence for several years, though the exact date of its founding is unclear. Originally simply a collection of merchants looking to profit on adventurers and travelers drawn by legends of riches within the old cathedral, it slowly set down roots and became an established town. As soon as the cathedral was looted bare, however, the adventurers and travelers stopped coming, and New Tristram found itself in decline. The town is now comprised mostly of depressing shacks; the inn is the only building that looks even the least bit habitable.
.......... I will have to take his word for it, for I must admit that while I did explore the burnt remains of the "old" Tristram, I lacked the intestinal fortitude to do much more than take a few hesitating steps within that infamous cathedral of legend" -Abd al-Hazir
Couple things to note here:
Burnt Remains of the "old" Tristram - Tristram from D1 was destroyed by the Dark Riders, but still remained liveable. When was this (or will this be) burnt?
Second, I wonder if the "new" Tristram added from the South, East, or North side of the Monestary.
