Respending Talents

Respeccing is a huge part of WoW. It was also something a lot of people wanted in D2.

For those who don't know, respeccing means paying a fee to be able to redistribute your talent points. So when Diablo 3 patch 1.2 comes out and nerfs your favorite Witch Doctor skill that you dropped 20 points into, you can just replan your characters skills, instead of either rerolling or sticking with an underpowered character.

Will it and should it be in D3?

Re: Respending Talents

I just don't see it. I guess if you could do it for a few bucks, it could work.

Otherwise, there wouldn't be the same activity of new characters being levelled all the time. That adds a lot to the game as much as many of us hate it after 5 ladders or so.

I would go along with a maybe a 1-time respec per character.

Re: Respending Talents

Where's the "I forgot my seeing into the future glasses and just want to say what I think, not some rediculous it will/will not happen statement" option??

Anyways, I think unlimited re-skilling will greatly reduce the replay-ability of this game so I doubt they would do it and I hope they won't.

Still, we don't actually know the skill system yet so there could be some re-skilling that doesn't allow you to totally rebuild any build in the class.

Re: Respending Talents

I think each character class (adventurer) should have a prologue act set in there native land where they can complete a few inductory quests/missions to prepare their charactor for the diablo adventure by obtaining upto 8 or so skill points and some useful equipment, much like the first few quests in diablo 2. While you are in this prologue act though you can try out the various skills and redistrute at will. Once you complete the prologue then your skills become 'locked'. There would need to be a level/skill cap so that once you reach a certain level ie say level 4 you cannot gain any more experience from the prologue. The added benefit is that you are then entering the main diablo story as an experienced adventurer rather than a ranked novice.

If Diablo 3 follows Diablo 2 and has a normal, nightmare and hell options, then the prologue act can allow you at the start of nightmare and hell to redistribute those same 8 or so skill points of your charcater if you so wish.

Another benefit is that the first act of the story can be a proper act rather than in Diablo 2 where the first half of act 1 was basically a training mode to the game mechanics. Since each character class will have their indvidual prologue then these can be tailored to that character classes' talents and highlight there major abilities.
