Item identification

I think it would be cool that instead of using Id scrolls, you find and item and it stays unidentified. You can equip and use it like a regular weapon, but you don't know its properties. However, eventually you start to discover them. Maybe you hit a monster and it does cold damage.... so you look in your inventory and one of the mods is randomly generated(as opposed to the whole items mods being made at once) to be adds x amount of cold damage. I think this idea would be sweet, because people might take days or weeks to discover the hidden mods.
Maybe its indestructible, but it takes a wearing down of the unidentified items durability for the mod to reveal. Perhaps it gives off a spell 5% chance if hit, but you are a caster and don't get hit frequently. Thoughts?

Re: Item identification

LOL, nice but can cause ALOT of trouble. I mean, honestly, using a gear you don't know what it does? That can be like doing the game naked.

I really like it, but it'll have to last only for the first months IMO. The items will have their names (Andy's Visage) but won't have properties. After a while the items detail will be on thw web and it'll be like in D2.

PS- There are some mods that can't really be seen. Trouble?

Re: Item identification

I don't think it would work. In the end no one would use something that she doesn't know the effect of. I would rather make magical items with hidden properties (1, 2 or 3), that the player would have to notice, or just go to Diabloii.net and check it .

I like that idea, but note what I'll reply to the other poster

Imagine this: Only rares (not all of the rares) can spawn with this property. Item name is random, and the items are never "bad" as many of the rares in D2. That would make Vizian' idea work perfectly!

Re: Item identification

good old days when we playing eyes of the beholder, it works like that, you can equip the item even before it is IDed. the effect will be there but you just dont know it explicitly.

you will only know the property of the item explicitly after casting ID spell.

id was a pain because in EOB you have to remember ID spell. so people just pick up whatever and start using it, trouble is that cursed item will also be picked up and used. but that was part of the fun.
