Graphic makeover screenshot

Hello everyone, I first wanna say its very good to hear that Diablo III is in the progress, very fun and fresh to hear now in the hot summer indeed.

Anyway I hope I dont bore you with my makeover of a diablo III screenshot, yeh another one..

It looks like Blizzard have a solid 3D engine with some really good flow in the animation (reminds of Starcraft 2)
But yeh there is just something missing like many have pointed out, so I decided to remaked a picture just to play around with colors and stuff, mostly just for fun.

I increased the constrast a tiny bit and changed the colors to what I think is more correct to the typical Diablo feeling.
I also added some shadows to the statues and the "railing on the stairs" or what I should call it, cause it looked pretty boring before.
I freehand painted some cracks here and there and added some highlight lines (mostly around the statues) to bring them out from the darkness and ofcourse the most important, blood!

Anyway I hope you like my view of it, I bet we can trust blizzard anyway! just fun to do these kind of stuffs late at night =)

I think that looks AMAZING! That's what D3 should look like.

Re: Graphic makeover screenshot

Blood already appears on the landscape when you kill things, along with other terrain effects. There aren't any in that shot but that doesn't mean there couldn't be, if you kill something there, or on another set of stairs that has blood by default.

Otherwise the "After" shot looks bland, dull and lifeless. Greys and browns are so 14 years ago.

This is a new game, it isn't "Diablo 2 in 3D". Start seeing the graphics for what they are - a new look for a new generation of the game, not what they aren't.

It's got a great dark and gloomy effect going on, but I must say that the character probably shouldn't blend so well into the scenery. Sure, it looks good, but not every one is pale and not every one wears colorless armor.

The after shot looks lifeless? DAMN RIGHT IT DOES! It matches the environment the character is in.

Re: Graphic makeover screenshot

Diablo should scare you.

One of the problems with D2 initially was it isn't really scary a lick.

But, it is once you go inside (or it once was).

But, I am FIND with the opening act being someone colorful but becoming more decayed and black the farther you go.

It lends a sense of progression. Color can be a very useful tool telling a player where they are in a game.

Re: Graphic makeover screenshot

I like it. As for what Mythor said, we don't need a warcraft feel to it. That's what it's coming across to me like. I really like your makeover.

Re: Graphic makeover screenshot

I agree that the second one looks too dull. I prefer the first one.

I think you might have overdone it a little, but I agree it looks more "Diablo".

Re: Graphic makeover screenshot

Blizzard really needs to hire this guy and stick him on the art team lol.

I really hope Vortexh that you put all your work and ideas together and submit them to blizzard for suggestions. It seems like a large part of the community supports you and the way it should look. I'm one for sure.
