To help provide the community and administrators about the communities general consensus about how Diablo 3's graphics "look and should look" topic please cast your vote.
Some feel that the current graphics and color schemes do not agree with the Diablo theme. Others add that it portrays to much of a cartoon feeling.
I personally think it looks fine. What I want to see more of are the actual environments, because that is what will define the real "theme" of the game.
color saturation may be seen as a requirement so that people can tell whats going on. an they probably had the brightness turned up for the same reason.
to me the surface areas don't necesarily look brighter, they just look more colorful and detailed.
The second half of that image definitely looks better than the first half, but I wouldn't say that the current graphics do not do justice to the Diablo universe.
As a long time diablo fan I am impressed with blizzards work with the exception of character/item art.
The first time i seen the barb i thought to myself is that an Orc from wow or a human? I honestly couldn't tell. The armour he was wearing was definately not what i had in mind.
To me diablo has always been about a hero that seems mortal, that seems beliveable fighting against the demons of hell. But most importantly he must look normal.
20 foot swords, 6 foot spikes on armour do not fit in the believeable catagory.
IMHO they need to start over on the char models they look to "wowish" to me.
I hope this does not offend anyone. It comes down to the simple fact that when i want to play diablo I want to play diablo, not wow.
That said I have no arguments about improving the inventory system or other subsystems of the game but the characters must look and fight accurately.
watch out when you say "i want them to look normal"
otherwise we'll have diablo 3 look like age of conan where the next-gen graphics are spent on rendering leather rags that look the same at level 80 as the stuff you had at level 20

All I am trying to say with my comment is that a sword better look like a sword. For example when I tried WOW with some friends I did not like the artwork for the weapons. They did not look like anything remotely close to something a "hero" should even be able to pick up. However, it seem WOW was designed to have more of that "cartoony" look. I am ok with that....for WOW..
One thing I liked about the old game was for the most part the weapons were based on historical versions from our past (the human race). This made them seem more convincing to me. I liked that mideival (sp?) feel.....
Does anyone remember Nox? D3 looks a lot like a Nox 2, where instead of sprites, we're using Polygons. That said, it's okay. Anyway, I'm not surprised that it looks like WoW from the classic RPG perspective.
I do agree with GUFF on the armor issue. More sensible armory with so much spikes and OPENED spaces would be great.
