I've been stuck in this mod for some weeks now, it's just a brand new D2! I mean, I've tried Median and that's definately something else too. But it's not like Hell Unleashed; The primary goal is just making it through. Normal difficulty is 10 times harder than Hell in vanilla!
Monsters are improved and many new bosses have been added including
The Hellfire Dragon,
The Chimera and the fearsome
Juggernaught!
Bosses make out the hardest part of this game, especially act bosses: A friend and I spent two hours in two separate tries versus normal Mephisto alone!
Getting top-end gear is not as much of a hassle as in vanilla but the difference lies in the gameplay change: The game doesn't become drastically easy when you have the best gear, in fact, it's almost a requirement to have some of the best gear to have a solid chance at many bossfights.
98% of the unique items have altered stats, sets have been changed and some new ones added, affixes have changed and crafting has increased potential.
The mod is very co-op friendly compared to vanilla and it's almost a requirement versus many bosses as mod creator states:
"Those purely interested in solo play will find a huge obstacle in bosses, as they were designed mainly for multiplayer combat…" - Soulmancer
Therefore I encourage you to join up in a
HCWF-like group with me and try D2 co-op in an entirely new manner. (Healing paladin, anyone?)
Or grab the solo-edition if you're a loner or want to get a hang of the mod first
