Rare Item Show-off

Is there a rare item show-off thread around here? I know of the one in Statistics, but is there one in Classic too? If not, we could just use this one! I only have one or two items worthy of this so far hehe. I will show once it's been determined whether there is such a thread already or not.

As far as I know of we do not have one here in classic. I've been a daily visiting member for about a year now and the closent thing I seem to recall is the Item evaluation thread which I check regularly to see if there are any elite rares Although thats not the actual purpose of the tread.

Im in favor of your proposal about making a showoff thread. Would be nice to be able to compare your own items with some of the godliest out there on the realms. Maybe it would even be possible to sort the items on the main page as the items is being posted throughout the thread? That way it would be easy to look up e.g. the godliest BH's of west ladder.

Nice initiative m8

I don't know if anyone else notices, but this link still shows up in the menu when you go to the items database on this site.

Best of D2

I wish that link still worked. I remember the old days when it was filled with 165+ Exe's and such. For the sake of nostalgia, I'm glad that dead link hasn't been removed.

How would you suggest we govern such a thread so it does not become part discussion and part 'oooooo and aaaah'.
And the down side of such a thread would obviously be that anybody new would not dare post for fear of his or her items being rediculed. Nor would they be 'inviting' for newer people to the forum.
I think this forum should be welcoming, a warm fireplace, not inmediately tossing a newcommer into the arena to prove their worth. Or to make them feel bad about their state of 'wealth'.

Le'ts have a Rare show off, and people can rate the item A+/A/A-/B+/B/B-/C/D/F

Hmm my Rare GREAVES (30 r/w, 39cold, 31fire, 12mf, 2 dex)
I'd rate em somewhere from A- to B
(if there had lower strength reqs and like 4x cold/fire i'd get em an A)

I see your point Warlockcc. I take it that there most likely would be a lot of editing posts from your part in order to keep a thread like that "clean." However, I do think there are ways to limit this.
One way would be to simply gather in alot of godlies from all across the realms and post them (ss/info) and then lock the thread itself. That way there wouldnt be any pragging and discussions and newcomers wouldnt have to be afraid of posting low-value items. Instead they would still get the benefit of comparing their items to the highest ranked items on the realms.
Therefore I do not see this as a thread that would be discouraging to new members but rather encouraging them to aim for similar items.
One could consider it something like the Classic ladder price guide also found somewhere around here - a thread which helped me enourmously when I started out here by describing some of the usefull mods to look for.

To take an example that illustrates my point I'll go back to when I still played LOD. I once found a 20life/17mana small charm while mfing and kept for the sole reason that I hit 600 life straight out. Later I discovered that it was worth something and almost sold it for 1 ist rune when the real value if several highrunes.

Maybe this is not the most perfect example seing how you most likely wouldnt throw away a 200%ed mart  But still I think you get my point.

So I hope you will reconsider and maybe appoing some who might voulenteer for gathering these SS/item info and carry out the idea of this thread.

Thumbs up hmm

rather than scare off the newcomers, it might also give them inventive to become immersed into the game and see the potential that it has.

they might think, "hey, if i play more, maybe one day i can get an item like that."

its just a thought, might be silly but i don't like when only one side to an argument is shown.

also, a newcomer is not FORCED to look at the topic, everyone has a choice right?

maybe in the first post there could be a something that gives people a warning or something and they can chose not to scroll down.

this is just my opinion.
im for it.

OK, fine by me. Up to you guys to clearly set the groundrules for such a thread.
Just set it up here, list the rules for such a thread, and just so it has educational value like Monzee suggests, let's ask the posters of items what makes it valuable for them. And once you have the rules and regulations down and other interested parties agree, make that first post and point me to it so I can add it to the useful links sticky.

I completely agree with this. Whenever I see some other players nice rare items, it gives me some drive to find some myself.

I don't think this kind of thread should be organized so much, that would require too much work I think, a simple SS would be best I imagine, along with some explanations, like where it was found, what do you use it for, etc. I also agree that there should be a ground-rules for this type of thread, along the likes of:

1) Absolutely NO flaming other peoples items. If they posted an item that they wanted to show-off, it must mean something to them. ooo's and ahh's are fine, put-downs are not.

2) This is not a trade thread, if you want an item that has been posted, please PM that person instead.

3) Posting an item can be done with a SS. There are several different hosting sites you can use. Here are a couple:
