The BvB thread!

Well, there has been talk of starting a bvb thread, and... here it is

The thread for everything bvb related... bvb mini guides, questions, facts, answers, all that good stuff

Hopefully it can get stickied once (if) it gets popular

Ill start by throwing down my .02, the clegger bvb mini guide (for budget players)

Stats:
45 base strength
base dex
rest vita

Clegaws weapon
Clegaws gloves
Twitchthroe
Swordback
Angelic ammy and 2X rings
Deaths sash
goblin toe
114 life mask

20 ww
20 sword mastery
20 bo
20 shout
rest ironskin

Cheap, effective, styling. This is not the best gear but it is the cheapest, The higher lvl you get the better dmg you get.

I had the best clegger on east ladder last season, using this gear. At lvl 85, including the deadly strike, clegaws sword does the same dmg as a ~150 battlehammer with less requirements, and a fat ar bonus.

Mabye you remember him, NOX_LaBvB

NOTE: im not gonna list expensive gear, because if you can afford expensive gear you can afford better than clegaws

Post away!

The base Cleglaw's damage is 3-19, not impressive at all. There is a 50% chance of deadly strike, which doubles the damage if that happens, still not impressive. But when you have a second item from the set, the maximum damage increases by 1.25 per character level. So a lvl 80 barb using Cleg's has a base 3-119 damage, with a 50% chance of double that with Deadly Strike, so it averages out to be 4.5-178.5 damage (3-119*1.5). That is of course before str bonuses (which are less for swords than for bhammers, (10% more for BHammers, which closes the gap a little)), weapon mastery, etc.

The AR bonus is 30% from the sword. The blocking on Cleg's shield is terrible, 30%, with Twitch is comes up to 55%, not that impressive. So
you can use the gloves for the second item, which give the 25% slow effect and a +10 to AR per level for having the second item, which is a big plus in PvP.

Swordback gives good blocking and a source of open wounds, a big source of damage with high-level characters. Here's the deal with Open Wounds:

From the dii.net Facts and Formulae archive at http://strategy.diabloii.net/news.php?id=551 :

---

Open Wounds:

Damage per frame:
Clvl=1-15: ((9*Clvl+31)/256)) * Modifier
Clvl=16-30: ((18*Clvl-104)/256) * Modifier
Clvl=31-45: ((27*Clvl-374)/256) * Modifier
Clvl=46-60: ((36*Clvl-779)/256) * Modifier
Clvl=61-99: ((45*Clvl-1319)/256) * Modifier

Modifier:
Triggers on a Player with attacker using a Melee Attack: 0.25
Triggers on a Player with attacker using Ranged Attack: 0.125
Triggers on a Boss Monster with attacker using Ranged or Melee: 0.5
Trigger on Other Targets with attacker using Ranged or Melee: 1

Open Wounds has a duration of 200 Frames (8 Seconds) and will reset the timer if reapplied. It's not actual damage but a Negative Life Regeneration.

---
So on a normal monster, an open wounds hit from lvl 90 player would do 2133 damage over 8 seconds, or 1728 from a lvl 80 player for another example. In PvP, divide those by 4 and they are still impressive.

There's not much a need for FHR in BvB, some more useful mods to look for are PLR (poison length reduced) and HFD (half freeze duration).

I'll write up my BvB guides tomorrow. We must all have a BvB festival!

cold damage and life are 2 main mods in BVB belt? the rest is just a bonus?

Also is Angelic ammy with two rings the only way to get godly AR? Sig helm and belt are good but dont get anywhere near the same amount.

Angelic is the best way to get ar. Sigons should not be used, ever imo

Life and cold dmg are the best. After that look for + strength.

Of course, deaths sash is way cheaper, and its opinion based which is better in bvb (deaths vs rare belt)

Cold damage for BvB is extremely overrated. I look for PP legit belts with life/str/dex, and high def (current is 98ed war belt with 3x life and 10+ each str/dex)

For massive AR, try to find a wep with base 250+ AR, then ame socket it, dia soc an ornate and grim helm (or grand crown), then wear rings with 12+ dex and 100+ ar. Ideal BvB rings are 15str 15dex 120ar 9min, although many lack the min dmg. The only time massive AR (7k+) is needed is for defence BvB's. Angelics should be used vs def BvB's almost always. Sometimes people like to duel "oldschool" without the damn sets though, and this is also good.

On a side note, I'm getting a sick legit BvB helm from a friend soon.

Zodi: which do you prefer on a defense bvb, pavise or grim shield?

On a completely unrelated, but more important note, what is your account on sccl and when do you play? I never see you on.
