i've been trying to register for quite some time now...but it always takes me to some "error" page. hope you can fix it! thanks.
I'm just a bit too intimidated by the possibility of rejection to send anything along. Reading submission guidelines, FAQs and site updates, one gets the impression that you guys aren't too friendly or accepting of certain people. And the repeated mentioning of rejection doesn't help my nerve either.
Not that I'm saying that's the case. I'm just explaining why I, and possibly others haven't sent anything.

Relax, I've been rejected from TDL before. Not nearly as bad as you think; as a matter of fact, An'yee was the second person who was able to finish the horrible attempt at literature, it was that bad, and she was still nice in explaining why it was rejected. Her exact email read:
"Dude, serriously, WTF?"
WTF indeed people. WTF indeed.
No, serriously, she politly pointed out what was wrong with it and told me to keep trying. If I can do it, so can you!
I thought I read somewhere in the TDL rules that invitations to submit a story might be made. If someone from TDL reads something here that they consider TDL-worthy they could leave an invitational comment. That would help people who have a fear of rejection.
In my own case, I'm used to rejection (don't get me started!), but I doubt if my odd and silly stories are really what the TDL folks are looking for. I get the impression that TDL is for "serious" Diablo II fiction, whereas my writing makes no effort whatsoever to respect the hallowed world of Sanctuary and sometimes gleefully bends and twists it. (I didn't even know it was called "Sanctuary" until I started reading posts here.) Hence, I never even thought about submitting to TDL.

You can't succeed if you don't try. TDL's standards aren't especially high. Submit a story. You may be surprised. Just, like, make sure it's well-edited. If it's readable, and doesn't suck, it'll probably get in. And if it doesn't... big deal. Revise, rewrite, resubmit. They're asking you to send stories. Believe me, if they're bad enough to get rejected, you're hurting them more than they'll hurt you. And they're asking you to. "Please torture me. Thank you very much". Or, you know, not torture. If they're good. Aren't you curious? It really is easy to submit.

Much like this forum, TDL is home to a wide variety of stories, based in the Diablo, Warcraft, and Whereverthehellyoulike universes. They can be serious, they can be funny, they can be scary. Again, just submit them and find out. You can do it!
Eep, sorry about registration being down! I didn't notice it before and I just informed the People who Code the Stuff, so hopefully we can get it fixed in the meantime. Thanks for letting me know! Part of me wonders if I might be able to to still register you for TDL by hand. Drop me a line via PM on the site with a name and password (you can change it afterwards) and we'll see what I can do.
Rejection. As someone who has been dating...well, nevermind that. We do have site standards, ranging from grammar to content. The FAQ is 100% there to guide site submissions to get rid of the most common types of problems. Do you know we reject most stories for the author's hitting one button (which we can't get rid of, unfortunately), even though we ask and have asked on numerous occasions for people not to? The button adds pages of HTML garbage that is very hard to edit out and leaves things looking, and this is the precise term, kinda wonky. Another massive part of our rejection box stems from icky grammar and spotting spelling on the part of the writers, at least part of which you can fix by a very easy method of using teh spelcheek!!!one11 .
The best part of getting rejected from TDL is not the snazzy toaster we give you as a parting gift, since we can't afford them, but that we actually send you a descriptive letter explaining why we turned the story away. Not line by line, but descriptive. Sometimes it's an easy fix, sometimes it will take a bit more work. However, I think in any case, you should always resubmit after you edit, but almost no one does. When we tell you to resubmit at the tend of the letter, and it is quite rare when we don't, we actually mean it.
I will fully admit to snark. It tends to get multiplied not by writers who give an honest effort and need help, but by people who submit stuff so blatantly under par that it makes us wonder if the story is a joke. Believe it or not, though, we want you to suceed. That's why we write all sorts of things telling you how. So many of the problems we see we've already covered in our articles and FAQ. I think that reading them would be illuminating. Of, if you weren't the mood to read those, you could look at some of the excellent pieces we've already submitted in all categories for inspiration and guidance.
I will start pooping into threads and saying "Come on over," but I just want to make sure that my not doing so is not an indication of not wanting the story. Sometimes, it's an indication of my not wanting to log into the forums because I'm busy. Thanks for all your suggestions.
One more thing, which deserves its own line: if I've not commented on a particularly good story, such as Winds of the Kae Huron, check to if we've not already accepted it.
