Should I up black hades for merc? - Diablo 3 & Diablo 2 Forums @ Diablo: IncGamers

Hey. I just finally came across a Lem rune today, which finally completes the runes I need to upgrade an exceptional armor to an elite. Since I'm mainly using my MF meteorb sorc (lvl 86), I'm thinking that my merc (also lvl 86 Act 2 NM Def) needs the upgrade most. He's wearing black hades (near 1k def), vamp gaze, and a 150-300 dmg ogre axe with 12 LL. I'm thinking the black hades might be a good upgrade candidate because it has good def, and 3 sockets open, so I could put in some P Topaz's, or some runes if need be (Any suggestions? his res are at 50 each, so I'm not sure if I should do something about that as well). Would this be a good idea, or should I up the gaze? Or should I get greedy and up my sorc's viper (even though when MF'ing she wears a 4 P topaz'd Dusk Shroud)? Thanks for any advice.

given the options of upping one of those 3 items, the mercs armor gets the most benefit. upping a viper is silly. the armor will give more def when upped than the helm.

I say get duriel's shell and upgrade that. Your mercenary won't kill enough to have much use for %mf, only if you focus on it. Also, get a bonehew orge axe and hel/amn it, it's only a few gems to buy

Well, I got too impatient last night to wait on any advice, so I went ahead and up'd the black hades. It went from 984 def to 1500 def, so I was pleased with that... but not so pleased when I found out the str requirements for shadowplate was 230... too high for my merc (188). Thank goodness for the 3 sockets, otherwise I would've freaked!

Anyways, one -15% requirements jewel, 2 P amythists (one in a socketed helm just to put it on, and one in the armor just to be able to keep it on), and 1 sol rune (damage reduced was the best final mod I could think of for the armor, since 1 P topaz really wouldn't make much diff) later, and my merc is now finally wearing his black hades shadow armor. Lesson learned!

lol why man dont waste ur rune that way. My might merc use doom crytic axe / bramble / eth andy helm with (15%resis all *** in). He can tank baal and some super unique easily.

He's not quite as rich as you. Though i agree for a Lem rune he could've traded for a better armor than up'd black hades.
