A friend of mine has had all his chars deleted and pass changed when he came to loggin this morning. His pass was a set of random numbers and letters, plus no-one knew it.

We have no idea who this happened...

How did he know his chars were deleted if his pass was changed?

The only way to get at a password like that is found out is if you are using 3rd party software (with attached keylogger/trojan), if you have given the password to a "friend", fallen for a scam or if the account recovery system has been exploited once again. I don't think the last is a possibility, blizzard has checked their system over and over, and there has not yet been widespread terror. Tell him to scan for viruses and spyware, and delete any unofficial 3rd party programs (maphacks, so-called "dupe" software).

do a scan for spyware?, he should do a scan for trojans.
