Shopping Larzuk for an old school hurtstick ad nauseum. This is my story, share yours

Briefing: I've spent the better part of 4 nights and 750 Pgems farming larzuk and cubing for a war pike of quickness.

I'm at my wits end here. My best finds so far: Cruel great pole axe (221%) from Larzuk and a Cruel war pike of butchery (275% +17 max). Other than that, no war pike of quickness.

I post this here because this is where the d2 connoisseur's hang. My question is 2 part, A. am i really looking for a needle in a haystack so to speak? B. What was your best shopped item? Share your stories.

What are you going to do with a warpike of quickness? Is this in an earlier patch (for 4 sockets)?

I've got a jeweler's gothic plate of amicae, but I don't remember if it was shopped. Also have +3 shadow skills +2 shadow master claw, again, not 100% certain it was shopped.

I also saw, but didn't buy, a cruel something of evisceration. It was normal quality, so I didn't buy it.

Also, I have this (the problem with these things is they're never elite):

Cruel Giant Sword of Quickness
Giant Sword
One Hand Damage: 11 - 59
Two Hand Damage: 33 - 103
Durability: 50 of 50
Required Level: 43
Required Strength: 56
Required Dexterity: 34
Fingerprint: 0x327cee79
Item Level: 93
Version: Expansion 1.10+
+40% Increased Attack Speed
270% Enhanced Damage

It's not strange you haven't found one while shopping, since chance of an item being upgraded to elite in a shop is quite low and Larzuk doesn't sell many pikes to start with. Using a high level character would help a little, but the chance of upgrading to elite is still of about 2.5% in the 90s (compared to 1.4% at level 20, better than nothing though).

Fara in act 2 and Halbu in act 4 can sell War Pikes too, if you're tired of Larzuk. You could check them out and compare which one of the three seems to have more pikes on offer, and stick with that one. Other than that... be patient, they'll eventually offer you one!

thanks for the encouraging words, man.

larzuk sells as many as 4 pikes in one visit and i find that every 15-20 visits i see a warpike for sale, sometimes even two.

He sells more pikes more often that fara and halbu for sure. I know the odds are very steep for shopping such an item, but nothing like the odds of stumbling on a high rune so i keep plugging at it

Im using a lvl 93 character btw.

Why don´t you reroll a magical War Pike with chipped/regular/flawless gems? The high qlvl of War Pikes means you can get Cruel/Quickness even at item level 25-30, and each roll will come with a built-in socket or two. If you roll a Cruel War Pike of <sweet suffix> with two sockets, you can put 2x Shael in it.

Some of my best shopped items:

* Cruel (298%) Ward Bow of the Glacier. This was in v1.09, where Cruel was not available on rares, and there were no attainable RWs with good ED for bows. I took it to Larzuk, got two sockets, put some skulls in there for the mana steal. Was a great bow for the weapon switch, for use with Guided Arrow by my second Matriarch-to-be, a javazon.

* 29/93 Garnet Plated Belt of the Whale.

* Jeweler´s Full Plate of the Squid (+78 life).

* Lancer´s Light Gauntlets of Alacrity.

* 39/34 Amber Greaves of Luck.

i have wasted well over 700 pgems trying to cube in the span of 3 days.

best roll was a cruel of butchery 275% +17max. I kept it but that is not my goal.

OK, but chippies are far more common than perfect gems. Each one of my characters finds hundreds of chippies along the journey (which I save (using ATMA as extended stash)). Using those for cubing a high-end magical elite weapon has always led to at least some Cruel roll. Sometimes not so good, say +230% ED, no suffix and only one socket, but I have also seen great rolls.
