    Item Usefulness Reality Check

I sometimes (rather often, even) find myself pondering: Is this item I just found worth saving is it useful somehow?

As this is unrelated to actual trade value of an item as well as Battle.Net region, I found it more than fitting to post it here, and will be sure to return to this thread for more advice to come. Please feel free to pose similar questions as well!

    Re: Item Usefulness Reality Check

Valuable is a word that some people have a hard time grasping.
    Try replace it with useful.

How could a 2os Diadem be useful?

On top of my head, I can think of 1 thing. Thats a runeword. (Since 3os helmets are better for gems/jwls)
    Lore perhaps?

    Then we speak of Lore.
Arent 2os helmets, along with Lore itself. Early game? Isnt 2os helmets also kind of common in the early game?

Is there an endgame runeword for 2os helmets? Nope.

Then Id assume its worth something for someone doing Lore, but the catch is.. Diadems has a lvl 64 req. so I doubt anyone will use it at that high lvl.

    Conclusion, not worth anything.

I agree with that thought. Thanks for the assessment as well!

Exhibit 2: Cryptic Axe (normal "white").

In particular, I'm wondering whether there is a point in giving sockets to the item using the Cube. If I understand things correctly, there is a 1/6 chance for 1-4 sockets respectively, and a 2/6 chance for 5 sockets. Is there really much of a point in anything except an Insight, which is only a 1/6 shot anyway?

    Re: Item Usefulness Reality Check

Personally I rarely make insight in non eth Polearms.
But if I cant find an eth one.. Its still easy enough to find a 4os Pole without having to cube it.

Even with 4os a normal CA isnt worth anything really. Unless you find someone in need of it due to a rarer charbuild etc.

Short answer. Non eth Poles are hardly worth any thought at all.

Do ethereal items classify as "low quality" or "normal quality" by the way? In extension: Can I use the cube recipe on ethereal items?

    Yes you can!
Afaik, they can be used in the same cube recipes, as the normal quality items.

Fyi, cubing an armor that is ethereal. Ebugs it. (Unless you knew that already ofc! )

    Re: Item Usefulness Reality Check

If an item is just plain ethereal, you can use the cube socekting recipe to add sockets.

If it is a rare item that just happens to be ethereal and you decide to reroll it, it will lose its etherealness.

    Re: Item Usefulness Reality Check

I really should know that by heart at this point Archone, but I keep forgetting the details... haha!

So ethereal is to be considered an item mod rather than item quality then? Although that doesn't make sense either since it carries over through transmutation. I guess it's neither one then. I'm a bit confused as to the laws of D2-physics to be honest.

    Thanks for the help guys!
