    Dragonscale +10 to Hydra?

How does that work? It has +10 to Hydra, a Sorceress skill, but its a Paladin only shield. Can someone explain this?

    Dragonscale
    Zakarum Shield

    Defense: 523-582
    Required Level: 80
    Required Strength: 142
    Chance To Block: 52%
    Smite Damage: 46
    Durability: 65

    (Paladin Only)
    +170-200% Enhanced Defense
    Adds 211-371 Fire Damage
    +15% To Fire Skill Damage
    +10 To Hydra
    +5% To Maximum Fire Resist
    +15-25 To Strength
    Fire Absorb 10-20%

(Only Spawns In Patch 1.10 or later)

Its an oskill. It lets you as a paladin cast hydra. Problem is you don't get synergies so to make it any good costs alot.

If you were to use the Hydra on the Torch, would the oskill from Dragonscale add to the Charged skill?

No, +skills never affect charges from items, you get the exact skill level it says on the torch.

What kind of build is Dragonscale even for? A Holy Fire Zealot? Anything else?

The fact is that the only thing that would increase the Hydra strength, for a dragonscale Paladin, is Conviction and +%Fire dmg from gear and Facets.

THe lack of synergies makes it very very weak. Its not even good as backup.

So as cool as it is, it doesn't benefit any builds?

I've never used the shield myself, but a fire-based paladin actually could make pretty good use of it. The shield is decent and gives +15% Fire Skill Damage. The Hydra oskill isn't going to be amazing, but throwing down a few of them and then switching to level 25 Conviction will soften monsters up before they reach you.

I contend that the real problems for Dragonscale are that, firstly, other shields make more sense for builds that aren't focused exclusively on fire damage (almost all paladins), and secondly, its utility for fire-focused paladins is massively outcompeted by runewords. A paladin with a Hand of Justice sword, Dragon body armor, and Dragon shield can have a level 25 Conviction and a level 44 Holy Fire simultaneously, with a maxed Resist Fire synergizing the Holy Fire damage. To add insult to injury, such a paladin also gets hydra procs.

A lvl 10 hydra does 56-70 fire dmg, without bonuses or synergies.

    Lvl 20, 129-153 fire dmg.
