Re: My wolfman has hit a wall

Have you tried using pets to distract two of them while you fight a third, then running away from them and repeating? As a werewolf, you can pretty much do laps around the Arreat Summit without the Ancients ever catching you and wear them down by attrition. It can be tedious, though.

Also, with the crushing blow you have, why not get some ias?

Or get a maul or similar, druids are very fast hitting with those. And 20% block is very low, so you should increase your damage by alot if you swap for a good 2 hander maul/greatmaul.

I figured he wasn't doing enough damage.

Ok, be kind here - how do I get ias? That's increased attack speed, yes? Charms?

I have several Bonesnaps, and I just found an executioners sword that does a ton of cold damage. I'm just so in love with the +3 to shape shifting that I get from Flesh render. Is +skills a bit overrated at times? I guess the answer would be yes if you're not dealing enough damage.

Re: My wolfman has hit a wall

For a shapeshifter, dmg is better than +skills. Yes, sometimes +skills will increase your dmg aswell.

But not nearly as much as a new weapon would do!!

Ias, or increased attack speed, doesnt exist on charms. Some uniques gives that.
But the most common way to do this, is to find a decently strong weapon. Like aldurs rhythm, and socket it with Shael runes.
    (Which gives you 20IAS each)

A very good weapon for a werewolf, is the Immortal Kings Maul. It also comes with crushing blow, and 2 sockets.

Your best choice would be to farm Nightmare Mephisto, he can drop a few exceptional weapons that is awesome for your class.
My favorite, pretty common, and cheap, is the Steeldriver:

    Steeldriver
    Great Maul
    http://d2x.diablo3x.dk/images/items/invgma.gif

    Mace Class
    Two-Hand Damage: (95-133) To (145-203)
    Durability: 60
    Required Strength: 50
    Required Level: 29

    +40% Increased Attack Speed
    +150-250% Enhanced damage
    +150% Damage to Undead
    Heal Stamina Plus 25%
    -50% Requirements

    Weapon Speed: 20
    Quality level: 39
    Treasure Class: 33
    Strength bonus: 110
    Inventory size: 2x3
    Melee Range: 3
    Max sockets: 1

Upgraded to the exceptional version, you increase its damage to
    (152.5-213.5) To (247.5-346.5)
And barely increases the lvlreq. Ive used that weapon for both ww barbs and druids, and its very powerful through Nightmare aswell.

    Just my opinions!

Awesome. Who am I to argue with an arch angel? I think farming nm meph would also grind him up a bit. I've been too soft on him and let him away with p4 because he has those puppy dog eyes.

I'll give him my best Bonesnap for now and farm Meph until I get one of those mauls you mentioned.

Re: My wolfman has hit a wall

I notice you have a ton of points in strength, and its probably because of your armor requiring 170 to wear. Do you have any alternatives available? The highest defense armor is not always the best armor to use. A nice alternative, and usually easy to find is shaftstop, it has 30% DR which will greatly help against any physical damge you take. Another good alternative is duriel's shell if you have it. Less strength means more vitality which means more life, always good.

My method for shapeshift druids (If I don't have a call to arms runeword for switch) is to have one weapon swtich be focused on plus skills, and the other focused on damage. The one with plus skills you will only use to summon your wolfs/bear/minions, and transform. Then you will switch to the damage weapon for attacking.

I'm not really sure where you are going with this build, but you have both werewolf and lycanthropy maxed, but minimal points in feral rage/fury. If you want to do more damage, and you have a respec available, I would switch some skill points out of werewolf/lycanthropy and max fury. A few points in feral is helpful but max isn't really necessary so the 5 you have in it now is probably fine. (I usually find lycanthropy more useful than werewolf, as lycanthropy is more life, where as werewolf is only more ias/ar). Also if you plan on using dire wolves, put at least 1 point into summon grizzly for the passive damage bonus it provides to the wolves.

In terms of weapons for shapeshift druids 2handed weapons will almost always be better than a 1handed + shield for damage, and shapeshift druids have terrible blocking rates anyway. Bonesnap is a great weapon, its reasonably fast, has crushing blow and resistances and its available to you. Although if you happen to have it, ribcracker is probably the best possible "cheap" weapon for a shapeshift druid. Its fast, has more CB, minimal stength requirements, and upping it provides a nice damage boost. Socket either or with a shael rune for faster attacks.

Anyway, method of attack would be distract with summons, feral rage until you have the big red ball floating around you, and then continually attack with fury, if red ball goes away, switch back to feral. Repeat.

I don't have either of those, but hopefully Meph will cough them up. In the meantime, I have:
Rattlecage gothic plate - this looks like what you are talking about. Def is only 332. However it has 25% crushing blow.

That's the only halfway decent unique armor I have. The rest has really low def - like Iceblink, Boneflesh, Darkglow, Rockfleece, Twitchthroe and Venom Ward. So farming Meph is prob important just to build up my inventory alone.

OK, I can do that. I can keep the Flesh render and shield on one, and put the Bonesnap on the other.

He is a bit of an experiment, to be honest. I love dogs and thought it might be fun to build a druid focusing exclusively on the wolves. I didn't see any builds for it, and I assumed that meant it probably wasn't viable! But I thought it might be fun to try anyway. He has breezed through until now.

I believe I might have 1 respec available. So I should max fury, max lycanthropy, and then everything that's left goes into WW and feral rage? Then I'll keep my summons as is but add a point in grizzly.

Believe it or not, I actually have Ribcracker! Amazing. Is there a cube recipe for adding sockets to unique items? I'll go hunting for that. I have a ton of shael runes. Are more shaels better than less?

This is awesome - thanks, guys!

Re: My wolfman has hit a wall

Also, imo, Oak Sage is the best spirit to use. No matter what build.

1p is enough until later lvls, when you have a few extra points to spare.

Re: My wolfman has hit a wall

I'll try to dig up a guide/pat thread that may be helpful for picking out what you want to do, some of the guides have some useful and not useful parts. Be back in a bit.
