Re: 50 years of Doctor Who

I think the scary part is when it's put into personal context:
Dr Who is older than my dad is.
That fabulous doctor, whose father-in-law was also a doctor, is about the same age, if a bit younger.

It's a conspiracy to hook youth by the wiles of older men.
AND IT WON'T WORK ON ME

Re: 50 years of Doctor Who

The anniversary episode was really good. The ending with Tom Baker was awesome and made me shed a tear for how old he is now :( and how great a doctor he was/is.

Re: 50 years of Doctor Who

Watched Day of the Doctor last night, thought it was great.

Wasn't there an episode that had the Time Lords trying to bring Gallifrey back using the Master? Why was it a revelation that Gallifrey is still out there and the Doctor now wants to search for it?

First question: not exactly. There was an episode in which the Time Lords tried using the Master to help them during a crises. It was called The 5 Doctors and was the 20th anniversary special.

Second question: it's a rather long story. During an earlier generation of the Doctor, the Time Lords were in a war with the Daleks. It was called the Time War. This story has never been told except for the fact that the [apparently] the 8th Doctor was the one to end the war by killing all the Time Lords and Daleks at the same time. Whatever he did caused him to regenerate and he turned into the 9th Doctor who started the new series in 2005.

With this new revelation last night it turns out that the 8th Doctor died during the war and regenerated into the War Doctor (John Hurt) and it was the War Doctor who ended the war. But now that time has been rewritten it didn't turn out that way. The Time Lords are apparently out there somewhere, perhaps locked in a time loop or something and the Doctor can go find them, if that's want the writers want him to do in some future stories.

Died may not be right word for it, have you seen the second prequel?

Watched it last night. Nice bit at the end with them all lined up as the camera pulled away.

    You were not alone.
'Doctor Who': 'The Day of the Doctor' rating breaks BBC America record

It was the highest rated telecast every for the network.

"Doctor Who" also rules social media, as the number on TV show on Twitter and the highest level of Tumblr activity for any TV event, including the Super Bowl. There were also sold out 3D screenings in 11 cities around the country and several more scheduled for Monday (November 25). Additionally, the episode was broadcast around the world in 94 countries, which set the Guinness World Record for largest simulcast of a TV drama.

While impressive, "Doctor Who's" ratings in the United States are a fraction of the number that tuned in to see the Doctor in the UK. "The Day of the Doctor" averaged 10.2 million viewers on BBC One, peaking at 1.61 million viewers total. The number is huge, but still below "Strictly Come Dancing," the UK version of "Dancing with the Stars."

Re: 50 years of Doctor Who

I can't believe that a stupid show about so called "celebrities" dancing is the number 1 show in Britain. Is that really good TV? I know, I know, other stupid shows are popular too. Just goes to show that you don't have to make good TV to get ratings.
