    Legendary Item Drop Survey Results

    This is the "official" thread for results stemming from the legendary drop rate questionnaire. If you've been tracking your legendary drops, post the results here every time you've got enough data to justify an inclusion.

    Minimum data to track:

    • Legendary/Set item and its ilvl.
    • What dropped it: (trash mob, champion, yellow, random purple, quest purple, gobby, chest, golden chest, etc)

    You can also record your character's MF and the MP you were playing on, but I think we're most interested in tracking the frequency of each item dropping, so that data is optional. It's interesting, but it's too hard to measure drop frequency since everyone plays different areas, with different gear, MP or solo, with different builds, etc.

    Tech assistance:

    I am not experienced with managing spreadsheets, offline or via some google docs shared thing. If people who are want to suggest some better data management system, for formatting posts here, and to make it easier for people to record their results while playing, and to ultimately combine all the player reports in a more manageable form, that would be much appreciated.

    Re: Legendary Item Drop Survey Results

    Just to start off, I've been tracking all my legendary finds for the past week or so, since this topic came up in discussion. I didn't have much time to play thanks to out of town guests. All were found in Act 2 on MP3 with my HC Monk with max MF. Thus the game starts with 375% and goes up to 450% with stacks. I never found anything during brief 475% Fortune Shrine windows, and only 1 of the below was found with less than 5 stacks, despite me doing fairly short games where i seldom killed more than 15 total Elites.

    • 60: The Sultan of Blinding Sand, 2H sword, Yellow Naga
    • 62: Won Khim Lau, Fist, Yellow Naga.
    • 62: Tiklandian Visage, WD Helm, Trash mob (desert spinner)
    • 62: Dawn, 1H Xbow, trash mob.
    • 62: Sledge of Athskeleng, 2H mace, Champion naga.
    • 63: Wizardspike, Dagger, Yellow Sand Imp
    • 63: Stormshield, Shield, Champion Skeleton
    • 63: Maximus, 2H Sword, Trash naga.
    • 63: Fury of the Vanished Peak, 2H Mighty weapon, Trash mob.
    • 63: Manajuma's Carving Knife, WD knife, trash mob.
    • 63: Sunkeeper, 1H mace, Treasure Goblin.

    Drop sources: 3 Yellow, 2 Champion, 5 Trash, 1 Gobby, 0 Chests, 0 purples. (Almost all these games were Vault of the Assassin + Dahlgur Oasis and its desert tomb, so I'm definitely killing more elites than usual over a short game, since the Vault of the Assassin has 7-9 in a small area with low concentrations of trash mobs.)

    Already I'm surprised at the results; not one of the items I think of as my "commonly found" legendaries, and no sets at all. Which is the benefit of actual records vs. anecdotes. It's why some people still believe in astrology and psychics; the few "hits" stick in your mind while all of the rest gets flushed as white noise. A handful of short A2 runs over a week isn't enough to draw long conclusions from, but I bet I don't really find that many Andy's hats and orange bracers; I've just found enough of those that I remember every time I do and forget all the other misc orange 2H weapons and WD hat type junk.

    Also, recording the drops is fun. Well, it adds to the experience at least, since I found each new CLANG interesting for the data, rather than just hoping it would be one of the handful of potentially great/valuable items.

    Re: Legendary Item Drop Survey Results

    Importing posts from the other thread doesn't work right since they go chronologically and predate this one. But Dana Scully's post with some data was interesting.

    As I keep track of every single legendary found since patch 1.05 I can supply somewhat accurate numbers. As of now I am at 871 legendaries found (all of them in HC mode).

    • 423 (48.6%) were dropped by Elite Monsters
    • 350 (40.2%) by white trash monsters
    • 51 (5.9%) by Treasure Goblins
    • 29 (3.3%) by Keywardens
    • 14 (1.6%) out of regular chests/corpses etc.
    • 4 (.5%) out of Resplendant Chests

    (Note: Boss Monsters are included in "white trash". I only recall two legendary drops from bosses.)

    Before patch 1.08 the percentage for Elite Monsters was higher - about 52%. Due to the much higher monster density introduced with that patch the ratio obviously changed.

    Here is a picture of my personal Top 40 most-found items. Note that only two out of forty were set items.

    Another useful set of results came on the main page news item from qtk33, who had a picture of his DB of recent finds:

    I'm making my statistic since 17.6, But without MF, MP and from what it droped(i dont think that its important and table will be much more difficult), its just how many times what legendary droped. 95% are from SC mp6-10, rest from HC mp1-3. You can see that crap/brim legendaries are droping much more often then legendaries with potencial.

    You can see it here:

    Re: Legendary Item Drop Survey Results

    I have started to play on MP3 just for this survey (previously it was MP1, lol). Since I was already "recording" the Legendaries drops (tbh, only the screenshot), it was not a problem to note few statistics.

    Spoiler

    Single Player, Act 2 and Act 1 "Runs". I usually clear all the areas before leaving, so probably why the white mobs have the biggest drop %. This is a a big change from my MP1 experience. Another thing I have noticed is the quality of the drops (including rares), maybe a bit of luck but first Manticore, first Inna's Favor, first two Calamity, etc. As a Barbarian, I was quite happy ...
    Also, two set items. So, it's 4 to 1 in favor of normal Legendaries.
    The question mark near the mob names is because there were different types of enemies and I have put the one which I think that has dropped the item.

    The next update will be the next ten Legendaries, probably.

    Note: I and some of my friends used to record the Uniques/Sets and Runes in D2 (also thanks to PlugY and the increased inventory). This survey really reminds me some old good gaming days ...

    Update: new ten drops. Also, the comments above are from the first ten Legendaries, so they are "obsolete".

    Update #2: new ten drops. Table now in spoiler. Added a short summary in the end.

    Nice formatting on these. I'll have to copy it myself when I add some more results. Also, "chubby purple unicorn" is maybe the best phrase in English that I've heard this month. It reminds me how long it's been since I entered Whimsyshire, too.

    I'm going to plug this thread on the main page next week, so we should see an influx of results coming in the future. And a user has volunteered to help with putting the results into excel, so combined meta data should be in the not too distant future.

    Re: Legendary Item Drop Survey Results

    Here's some more data points...I haven't been finding many Legendaries over the past week of play:

    Found on Normal difficulty (with a new HC Demon Hunter)

    What: Boneshatter (Legendary 2-H Mace lvl 17)
    From: Treasure Goblin
    MF = 59%
    MP = 5

    What: The Stolen Ring (Legendary Ring lvl 24)
    From: trash mob
    MF = 66%
    MP = 5

    Found in Inferno (with lvl 60 chars in soft core)
    What: Immortal King's chest (Set Chest Armor lvl 63)
    From: trash mob
    MF = 426%
    MP = 3

    What: Zunimassas's Vision (Set Voodoo Mask lvl 63)
    From: trash mob
    MF = 341%
    MP = 5

    What: Flying Dragon (Legendary Daibo lvl 63)
    From: purple monster "Scourge of the Harvest" (from one of the Act 1 events in Fields of Misery)
    MF = 426%
    MP = 3

    Good hunting everyone! =^-^=

    Re: Legendary Item Drop Survey Results

    I've been lazy about adding more, but my initial piece of paper is full so I must report results. And perhaps get more organized for recording more in the future. I'm only recording item and what drops it, since the rest requires too much context of your char, play style, etc. Generally, these were found by my Monk from P83-86 or so, all in solo games, and mostly on MP3, hence with 450% MF. (Some MP4 and MP2 mixed in, and a very few found at the start of the game before I was stacked up, so I doubt any dropped with less than 400% MF.)

    Click spoiler button to view item found tables.

    Spoiler

    Tally: 31 items
    • Set: 3
    • Legendary: 28

    Item Level:
    • Level 60: 3
    • Level 61: 6
    • Level 62: 9
    • Level 63: 13

    Drop Source:
    • Trash Mob: 21
    • Blue Elite: 3
    • Yellow Elite: 3
    • KeyWarden: 2
    • Act Boss: 1
    • Treasure Goblin: 1
    • Clickables: 0

    Surprised how many came from trash mobs and how few from Elites. Other tallies I've seen have been more like 50% elite, 40% trash, and 10% KW, chests, goblins, etc. My first batch of 11 was 5 trash, 5 elite, 1 goblin, with basically teh same character, so maybe just a run of RNG bad on elites and/or good on trash?

    That data from everyone would be interesting broken down by MP and MF; is there's some threshold that really boosts the drops from trash mobs? Higher MP turns up their random rare+ drops, after all, but I was only on MP3 for most of this, and I know the last 4 drops were all from trash mobs and all were on MP2 since I got all last night and today while I was experimenting with slightly diff build and playing on a lower MP to compare speed of exp gain.
