    I'd say yes and yes.
    Spoiler

Also, I'd recommend just picking a character on looks, do some reading on the official class faqs on D3's site and pick the character because of that or just roll the dice on which you start playing with.

For someone who has absolutely no interest in PVP, endgame content nor achieving maximum level, like myself, I'd say the game is both worth buying and playing. For a casual gamer, again like myself, a few handouts from friends and several investments from the GAM, I was able to finish Inferno difficulty with all five characters on MP0 in about 315 hours with a challenging difficulty degree. $60 for 315 hours of good, but not great, gameplay seems fine to me. As for the characters, they are all very different, so it would be worthwhile at dabble in all of them, but I found the Witch Doctor to be the easiest character to play by a very long way.

D2 is still amazing, totally worth buying.

Choose whichever class you like , Barbs start out weak due to being dependent on items more than other classes , Sorceress and Necromancer are the easiest for starters because items do improve them alot but they are not hindered by them that much , Paladins are either support class for your party or a Hammerdin which many people find boring , Amazons are a ummm , well they are amazing Javelin Amazon is alot of fun I usually start playing with them on Ladder Reset in Hardcore.

To sum it up , I feel like playing D2 now , damn it. Next ladder Reset I am going in Full Hardcore .

Yes. You can start with any class, really. Each class has at least one build that is not very gear dependant you can start out with. Check the Diablo 2 class forums for guides. I would say the Sorceress or the Necromancer are the easiest to start out with.

Diablo 2 still worth to play.

Well, it depends on what main build and class you want to play.
If your build heavily depended on items and you start with completely nothing, then you should start off with hammerdin.
And after you got all those items, you can start making your main builds(that heavily depended on Items).

Most PVP builds in D2 severely depended on items.
