    Damage - Magic damage

Damage - Magic damage. The difference between these is that the first refers to physical and the other to cold-fire-poison-lightning?
When an armor says ''magic damage reduced by 1'' how important is this? how is this related to resistance?
I understand if despite the magic resistance I get the strike then the magic damage is reduced by 1? Same goes for simple damage?

    Re: Damage - Magic damage

Edit: Okay sorry for the confusion. I have not played in a while. The Arreat Summit confirms that I was wrong. Thanks for the clarification Dawnmaster. I wish it wasn't that the word magic damage can mean both and it depends on the context.

    . . .

    What is Magic Damage?
Magic Damage in this case is Fire, Cold, Lightning and Magic Damage (Bone Spells from Oblivion Knights).

Look here for more info on which damage is considered which. I wish I could find a list of what skills/monsters do magic damage, but I cannot seem to find it.
Actually, magic damage reduced affects fire/cold/lightning/magic?

Thanks for the help Dawnmaster. After looking into it further you are right. See my edit above. Looking right now for when the reduction is applied. Not sure if it is before or after resistances.

    Re: Damage - Magic damage

First there is straight reductions (magic damage reduced)
    Then comes % reductions (resistances)
    And lastly Absorb.

EDIT: it has been a while, so I researched it on various website quickly, came across an interesting fact I didn't know before: "magic resistance" is capped at 10% (I know there is only 1 item which can get it, but did not it was capped at 10)

Magic resistance % on item? Which one?

Theres magic absorb in small numbers on a few items/runewords however.

An interesting note on mdr (Magic Damage Reduction), if you use the Rising Sun amulet, you can get immune to the High Councils hydras!
First of all it gives you 0.75*CharLvl in FireAbsorb.
And secondly, the councils hydras deals low dmg, but at a high rate. (many firebolts)

So if you have a high absorb you can actually heal instead of taking dmg!

Crunched the numbers to see what difference the best would make:
    magic damage: 29000ish
    after pvp penalty: 4930
    after mdr: 4880
    after res: 4392
    after absorb: 4354

Hm, barely makes a dent ^^

Just for fun, let's match the perfect ES sorc against it:
    magic damage: 29000
    after pvp pen: 4930
after ES: 247 (3513 to mana)
    after mdr: 197
    after res: 178
    after absorb: 140

Problem is her mana will probably be drained in 2 direct hits, and the third hit will kill her.
Well hey, most chars will most likely die from the first or second hit already, no that it matters when you have a dozen hammers flying around ^^
