Diablo 2 LoD LAGGING on new computer. Specially on LAN play. Help!

Hi guys

I have installed LoD on my brand new notebook to play over LAN with my brother and friend. We're doing 3 man coop.

However, my computer which is pretty new can't run 10+ year Diablo 2! After a few minutes of play, it starts lagging quite bad. I haven't noticed this much in single player (though it happens), but it is getting me killed in multiplayer.

What is going on?

I remember some DLL tool to reduce lag but I no longer remember where to find it.

Any advice? My notebook even has a graphics accelerator card and runs Diablo 3 fine (but I quit it for obvious reasons), and now Diablo 2 is lagging.

What OS do you run? I run fine on windows 7. If you have windows 8, there may be problems I'm not sure.
