Re: New life expected in Dawnmaster's Mansion

Hello again, here's a small update:

the last few days have been tiresome for all the reasons I wouldn't have expected:
    - family visits (A LOT)
    - constant phoning
    - restless sleep (I currently sleep alone at home to take care of our animals)

Kevin is actually a quite boy, he enjoys our company, drinks a lot (most babies 3 days old drink 30cc every feed, he drinks 60 atm, child docter is already suggesting switching to specialized heavier milk, or thickening the milk with special rice), makes a lot of funny faces, his poop doesn't smell at all (yet, I've been told...) and he's been under the suntan machine ^^

We're hoping to get home later today, at which point I will (finally) try to pry my camera out of my wife's hands, so I can post the long overdue pictures here

    Peace

I hope it's a not too intimate question, but why no breastfeeding?

Pretend I said something in that threatening, ominous Yoda voice.

That's pretty fast. I wouldn't rush things, though YMMV.

Oh, are YOU in for a delight.

Didn't work out for us, either. It always amuses me how back in the old days breastfeeding was something the lower classes did and was to be avoided in deference to the healthier diet from a bottle, whereas now it's something the higher classes have the luxury of doing and so is painted as being healthier and more natural.

Re: New life expected in Dawnmaster's Mansion

In the old days, rich people had foster mothers to get their babies fed. Bottlefeeding for newborn children as the norm was more a thing of the 20th century.

Breastfeeding is obviously the most natural way of feeding babies. It's usually the best food a baby can get, but there are certainly a lot of cases in which it's not applicable or even harmful. With respect to what's the best food, I wouldn't take too much note of what's currently en vogue in the eyes of journalists, book authors and self-proclaimed experts ( which the internet has plenty of).

Aye, don't make yourself feel guilty because of the breastfeeding mob, who claim you harm your child if you don't breastfeed. You must do what works best for you, if that's breastfeeding fine, if not, then don't worry about it.

Like I said, it has far more to do with subliminal social status than the actual health of the infant, just like sun tans. Working moms don't necessarily have time for a leisurely suckle, much less pump...
