Re: Predator Snarls in Belgian Forest

    I think I know.

Yes, I am the greatest hick. It's a curse that will follow me forever, even to the forums.

I went back to the woods yesterday, the sound was a little faster and more bird like this time.

Someone suggested me that it could be a crow, as it came clearly from the top of a tree,
and all I could see were birds, I think I'll settle for a crow then :-)

Hey Dawn, the next time you're out there, take a recorder and catch those sounds if you can. I'm dying to solve this mystery.

Right now I'm leaning towards tree frogs (thanks, Blob), woodpeckers (mentioned by Stillman and me), and the crow your friend suggested (ravens are even creepier). We really can't ID it without hearing it though. COME ON, MAN - I'M BORED!

thanks, Loz. I think you are bloody fantastic!

EDIT: Stillman, I had a whole post about not knowing what a hick was until you came down here and making fun of women who drive Escalades because they aren't used to handling anything that big, but something happened with my previous post. It was pretty damn amusing. Oh, and I think the thing making the noise is Bigfoot. It's totally Bigfoot. /silly

yea, get back out there, but make sure you aren't armed, it won't attack you if you're unarmed

That's the first rule of predation, right?

Until the clarification about it being the 'chatter' (which I've never associated with predators) I was thinking maybe you had the misfortune to have a wild boar in the area. Those things from Germany are legendary among American servicemen for being every bit as nasty as the Arkansas Razorback or SouthWestern Javelina hogs, but can achieve several score more kilos in weight.

One of the facility engineers who was a Jäger kept a sow out near the post sewage plant and fed it the waste from the mess hall. She was at least twice the size of these little guys, though she was quite pleasant (and the piglets were adorable).
