Need help and Answers please :D

So my boyfriend and I are using the TCP/IP aka LAN for multiplayer and we are having issues with the XP. If he kills it, I get nothing, if I kill it, he gets nothing. Isn't there suppose to be experience sharing? I'm new to Diablo, and he hasn't tried the multiplayer so we're a little lost. I tried googling it but I guess I'm just too dense or just can't find it lol
