The death of a second SSD made my mind up that it was time to put into action my long standing "build a decent PC" plan. The old machine (a proprietry HP system) had a shoddy BIOS that wouldn't allow me to switch off SMART checking, which does a good job of wearing out SSDs quite quickly. I figured I didn't want to burn through any more of them, so it was time to do things properly and build my own machine from scratch. I kept the case (not the original HP one), the 2 500GB HDDS, and the graphics card, and replaced everything else. Total cost for the new stuff was $1069 (pretty decent by Australian price standards).
System specs:
Intel Core i5 3470S CPU
Asus P8 H77-M Pro motherboard
8GB (2x 4GB) GSkill Ripjaws DDR3 RAM
256GB OCZ Agility 4 SSD
2x 500GB Seagate Baracuda HDDs (already owned)
NVidia GTX 550 Ti graphics card (already owned)
Thermaltake Soprano case (already owned)
Corsair 650W PSU
LG 24" LED monitor
Logitech mk710 wireless mouse + keyboard
Wireless network adapter card
1TB Western Digital My Book external HDD (already owned)
Windows 7 (already owned)
Logitech X140 desktop stereo speakers (already owned)
Diablo II: Lord of Destruction (already owned)
Quite pleased with what I've ended up with, except for the monitor. I can't find a setting that looks right, especially yellow and orange. Too much of a blue-ish hue. I can't get the yellows and oranges to look right without giving everything else a nice rose sheen.
RL: Re-installing everything. Burning homemade pizzas (grrrrr!).
D2: Probably not.
OVG: Re-installing D3 and PoE.
I love new PCs! I'm the kind of nerd who goes window shopping in PC World.
RL: My step-dad informed me this morning, before he went to work, that he could hear me and Briony last night. Awkward.com...
D2: Pindle runs.
OVG: Possibly some Borderlands, but I need to do some revision.

What kind of look did your stepdad have on his face as he informed you?
The SSD will rock your world.
If you can return it, I'd go for a Dell monitor with IPS panel, they are cheap and awesome. Great colors. Unless you really need a TN panel.

RL: Clean apartment.
D2: More work on the strafer.
OVG: No.
That is literally how my brain reads that information
RL: Eye doctor today. I got something in my eye that scratched the cornea up really bad. So now I pay a man to pour liquid fire into my eyeball twice a week. Hooray!
D2: Multiplayer with my nerdy redhead girlfriend. You guys seriously need to get one of those.
OVG: Tower Defense games! Those are fun when you're poopin.
My girlfriend isn't a nerd, but she loves that I am![]()

Awkward.com indeed!
Grats on the new computer!
RL: my son has a basketball game here shortly, then I'm going to my parent's house for dinner. Not much else. If the store is open after the game I may work on building a new cage for my Guinea pigs.
D2: nah
OVG: more PoE. Making good progress in act 2 cruel. There's a certain boss coming up that I'm not looking forward to though.
