    Tao of Magic Arrow

    I plan to use Magic Arrow for physical immune monsters. How is magic damage calculated on this skill? Is it 20% of all damage, after all ED, or something else?

    A percentage of your total physical attack damage (including that added by Magic Arrow, and after +% Damage and Critical Strike or Deadly Strike) is converted to magic damage before it is applied to a target.

    Some other points:

    • It can be used even without arrows or bolts equipped, although without them the crossed arrow icon signalling no ammunition is annoying.
    • Level >12 costs no mana.
    • Despite what the character screen displays, due to a bug Magic Arrow's +% Attack Rating does not apply (the same applies to all +% AR from Bow and Crossbow Skills).
    • Despite what the character screen displays, Magic Arrow's Minimum and Maximum Damage is applied before +% Damage, not after: according to the character screen level 20 only adds 20 damage, but with +400% Damage it's actually 100 damage.

    Thanks for help!

    Does this AR bug mean that only items and Penetrate can add to my AR? That would make maxed Penetrate a must, since dex gives just a bit of AR.

    BTW, is Penetrate AR bonus applied multiplicatively with dex bonus? (200 dex, 20 Penetrate = (200x5x300%) )) That would create a strong synergy between maxed Penetrate and maxing dex.

    All other sources of +% Attack Rating still apply, including that of other skills like Enchant or Fanaticism. Whether or not it's worth investing more than one point in Penetrate depends on what other AR enhancement or defence reduction you have: for example, a Faith bow's Ignore Target's Defence means AR isn't needed at all against normal and minion monsters, while its +300% AR, Level 12-15 Fanaticism Aura When Equipped (+95-110% AR) and +1-2 All Skills (+10-20% AR from Penetrate) can result in sufficient AR against everything else, without needing to invest in Penetrate.

    Base Attack Rating = ( (Dexterity-7) * 5) + Class Bonus + Item AR, so for an Amazon with 200 Dexterity, Base AR = ( (200-7) * 5) + 5 + 0 = 970. Level 20 Penetrate's +225% AR would then increase this to 3,152 [970 * (100+225) / 100].
