Competition =/= competitive. The fact most people don't understand this (as this thread proves) will be the source of all PvP related problems.
Erm... it's all obvious OP.
Why is it late?
The resources developing the PvP patch were temporarily moved to the new content patches to try to keep the hardcore base that was still playing. This probably ended with 1.0.5
Why no updates?
They have nothing to say. The team was hardly touching the PvP content because of the patches. They learned the hard way not to create false expectations as well. Simple as that.
Actually we've seen PvP live in 2009 or 2010 if i am not mistaken. That means 3 years ago PvP was already working just fine. The fact that they couldn't finish PvP for release is already pathetic imo. But what will be really funny that when they finally release PvP it will be simple 4v4 deathmatch, like they said many times. I mean 3+ years for that... wow.
We also saw Act 1 and 2 live since 2008. They were still working on it, but had a few parts good enough to let people play it. That doesn't mean it was "done" back then.
It's indeed pathetic. I also feel like they are cooking something greater for PvP, which will justify (a little) the postponement. I'm hopeful, but still pretty sure it will be a big fail.
Well, if the team decided to postpone the PvP "content' in order to work on the PVM content its their choice.
Honestly, if they felt like taking a year or so to work on making the pvp content really good, im all for it.
But that still doesn't solve the problem of a duel button. A duel button is a simple toggle option not content. Im all for arena duels and such. But id rather spend most of my time just dueling in game against friends.
Even when a duel buttons are brought up around Jay Wilson in interviews he spins the topic into pvp arena.
I mean, i don't like to use the word retarded but... Its the only word i know that can describe it.
Personally, Im not looking forward to PvP.
There are players out there such as myself who can't play PvP or hardcore because of lag. How fair is a PvP fight between somebody with a 100-150ms ping and somebody with a 300-400ms ping? I was never able to do well in PvP in D2 due solely to the ping. I tried to compete in PvP as a single player with the SPF tournaments. If I joined somebody else's game I'd loose every time yet if they joined my game, I could beat 2 or even three other players all pitted against myself. That's how much of a drastic effect the difference in ping makes on PvP.
PvM isn't that bad with a ping like mine, but it's likely to be a whole other ball game in PvP. I appreciate that most players will be able to play PvP with a good ping. But given that battle.net's servers are only in US, EU & asia, anybody more than 2,000 miles from their nearest server, is going to be behind the eight ball in PvP.
